Life in the Medieval Times
Introduction
Did you know that in the during the Middle Ages Europe’s population was about 80 million?.Not only did a little bit more than 50 million people die because of the Black Death .But also the Bubonic Plague caused the most deaths during that time period. The chances of surviving were really low and the percentages were 60% ,and for the people that got the bubonic plague only had about 40% chance of surviving since the doctors did not have a cure for it.
Feudalism
Feudalism was the system where the government in Europe was based around the feudal system during the middle ages. It took place from the 8th century to the 15th century. Feudalism took place in Europe during the middle ages when jury systems were not yet in place. Feudalism started because a king wanted to keep his power, so they secured land and they paid people to keep their kingdom in order.
The Feudal System was organized by a government and society in Europe.Small communities formed around the manor and lord. The manor was run by the lord of the area. The lord lived in a castle where people would gather to have a celebration if they were attacked. A small village would form around the castle which also included the local church. The center of life in the Middle Ages was the manor. ¨The manor was run by the local lord. He lived in a large house or castle where people would gather for celebrations or for protection if they were attacked. A small village would form around the castle which would include the local church. Farms would then spread out from there which would be worked by the peasants.¨
Although it was a government system followed by all, most people did not benefit but the lords and the churchmen benefited the most because they were one of the whelitiest people.Peasants benefited the least because they barely had any rights and they did not own anything. They were also pledged to their local lord .Eventough they worked the whole day every single week they barely had any money to survive.
Feudalism ended on August 4,1789 .It ended when the peasants got together and demanded to the king ,or kingdom, that they get paid more , and have better living conditions. The French Revolution was a key factor, they beheaded the higher ups and changed how Europe economics worked and limited Monarchy.
The Black Death
The Black Death also known as the Bubonic plague was a catastrophic event because it killed more than half percent of the Europeans and between 75 million and 200 million people in the world. The disease was easily spread due the lack of medical information and the lifestyle the Europeans had.¨The total number of deaths attributable to this devastating pandemic was 75 million people.¨
The disease was spread by small creatures such as rats, mosquitos, fleas and other living organisms. Also, the foods that peasants ate nurtured the animals. The doctors at the time were not informed about how to cure disease as such, so they cut off limbs and gave them wrong treatments because there was no cure.
The Bubonic plague had fatal effects on Europe. Because they had to bury the bodies and it contaminated the underground water so they couldn't drink water or take baths. It caused the disease to spread quicker and made the chances of surviving really low.
The Black Death ended in the 14th century. When the Euiropines killed most of the rat population that carried the disease. And when the people that had and grew food died because of the virus, rats could not eat anymore and a lot of them died.¨It was caused by the organism,Yersinia pestis which was carried about from the bodies of black rats by fleas¨
The Clothes
The clothes that were used during the Middle Ages were different between the rich and poor because the rich people would dress in fine clothing .But the poor people would not. They would have to make their own clothes by hand. Because they did not have the money to buy clothes like the rich people did so instead they just used cheap items they had at home and used that white the rich would just buy there clothes.¨However, as time went by, the design of clothes followed fashion. Then, the upper classes used to dress in fine clothes. The wool trade provided fabrics that could be dyed in a variety of colours.¨
The clothes in the Middle Ages were not the best because the poor people wanted to dress like the rich people but all they had was cheap fabric so that‘s all they used , and the rich people actually had the money to afford good quality fabric for their clothes.¨Apart from that, townspeople copied the style of the rich people although they used cheaper fabrics. Besides, the length of the over-tunic showed their status , so poorer people used to wear them to the knee, merchants to the calf, clergy and professional classes to the ankle.¨
The people that got the good clothes were the people who had money, and the people that got the bad clothes were the poor people because they didn't have the money and also because they had to make them by hand with cheap household items they had around. ¨Peasant women spent much of their time spinning wool, which was then woven into cloth and then made into garments. Therefore, poor people's clothes were cheap, rough and woollen.¨
The clothes started to change when the clothes for the wealthy people started to change designs and a lot of the wealthy people started to buy the new clothes and started to wear them instead of wearing their old clothes .
Conclusion
The middle ages went through a really difficult time, but also trough some arranged times. It was also going through an organized type of government ,but was also affected by some deadly diseases. This time period is really important because it shows how a bad a negative ecosystem can be changed , and how it also gets better throughout the time.
