Parents and all other audience members: 

At VSHS, you may enter through the Activities Entrance or the Main High School entrance. The Activities Entrance will be close to the home base (gymnasium) and the main entrance will be closer to most of the performance centers (except centers 15 & 16). At VSMS, spectators will need to enter the main entrance of the building which faces 15th Street. There will be a table at all three locations for the suggested $5 donation along with programs for purchase. Programs will be sold for $1.  We are only equipped to take cash.  Please plan ahead for cash only as we will not have card readers.  

There is a $5 suggested donation at the door, and programs will be sold for $1.  The concession stands are only equipped for cash, so please bring cash for concessions.  

State contests may/may not run earlier than scheduled performance times because of drops. We do not guarantee the scheduled time as the performance time; it is listed as an approximate time for your convenience. Tell your performers to check outside the doors of each of the performance centers to see if the center is running ahead (or behind) of schedule. 

• Your coach needs to communicate your school code to you. No Vinton-Shellsburg volunteer will know that information.

• Please do not wear school-identifying apparel in the performance centers.

• ***NO PICTURES or AUDIO/VIDEO RECORDINGS ARE ALLOWED IN THE PERFORMANCE CENTERS.*** 

• Be respectful and quiet in our hallways. We do not have enough space for hallway celebrations, nor do we have enough volunteers to be shushers in the hallways; remember that others are still performing.  You can celebrate in the CTE Hallway (which contains the warm-up room labeled "Electricity").  You can also celebrate in the cafeteria or home base.

• WELCOME TO VINTON-SHELLSBURG HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOLS!  We hope you have a great day at contest!  

• Please use the DROP/CHANGE FORM  if you have any drops, title changes, or student substitutions.  

• Please communicate your school code to your spectators. None of the volunteers will have that information.

• Coaches, please check into the High School office when you arrive. If you have any drops or or title changes, please fill out the form above now; if they don't happen until the day of, please let the office know.  

• We are happy to help coaches with emergencies, but please instruct your students to come to you, not the main office if they need something.

• Busses:  After your bus has unloaded at VSHS (or VSMS), please drive to Tilford Elementary School (308 E 13th St, Vinton) and a shuttle will bring you back to VSHS.  

• If you have parents or others who wish to be audience members please warn them that district contests often run earlier than scheduled performance times because of drops. We do not guarantee that time as the performance time; it is listed as an approximate time for your convenience. Tell your performers to check outside the doors of each of the performance centers to see if the center is running ahead (or behind) of schedule. No pictures or videography is allowed in the performance centers. 

• Please remind spectators to either park at VSHS or VSMS.  Since most centers are at VSHS, we'd recommend you park there.  Parking at VSMS is limited as it is a smaller lot.  There will be a shuttle bus that will go back & forth between the two buildings EVERY 15 MINUTES (Ex: Leave VSHS at 8 am, drop off at VSMS and then leave to return to VSHS at 8:15 and go back to VSMS at 8:30). 

• PLEASE have your students pick up their area in the gym before leaving. 

• You may receive your ballots only after all individuals have performed and ratings have been posted. If you need to leave before ratings are posted, please bring a self-addressed stamped envelope and leave it in the office so that we may mail your comment sheets to you.

WEATHER:  In case of inclement weather, we would first consider delaying the contest on the same day (such as 2 or 4 hours later) and running without comments. Secondly, if we should have to postpone, our rain date is Saturday March 21 starting at 8 am.  We will communicate this information to all coaches as soon as possible.  

We look forward to hosting your school. Please remind your students to be courteous & quiet in the hallways & to be supportive of other performers. Too, please encourage parents to avoid school apparel in the performance centers. We also ask that any complaints from parents go through you first, and then please let me know what we might do differently if we host again. We are open to constructive feedback. Thanks you!
