Dear Parents & Guardians,
Welcome back to another exciting year! I have been looking forward to the first day of school since summer began! I’m so excited to work with you and your children this year. I will do my best to take good care of them while they are in my presence and hope that you will work with me to ensure that your children meet with great success in all that they do. I know this year may have some uncertainties, but I am committed to providing the best possible education program I can, and your child’s safety is my top priority. Below is a brief outline of some things that may interest you as we enter the new school year.
School Supplies: Feel free (but not obligated) to send: colouring tools in a pencil case, a box of Kleenex and headphones. I will have shareable materials for student use as well. Binders will not be used. Students should bring a couple spare masks and 1-2 filled water bottles each day. We will have opportunities to refill them at the water re-fill station, but drinking fountains are closed. Please label all your child’s items. Students should also have clean, non-marking indoor running shoes. A copy of the school year calendar and our schedule will be sent home for your reference.
Homework: Students will complete regular entries in their planners, and these will require your initials daily, to verify that they’ve taken responsibility for the day’s work and/or notes. Feel free to write a message to me or your child in their planner as this serves as a valuable communication tool. Planners will be checked daily.
Since reading is vital in education and our world, regular home reading will be expected by your child. Additional details will follow once the Reading program begins.
We’ll also be assigned occasional “Table Talks” where your child is encouraged to discuss a topic at the dinner table (or on the way to after-school events etc.) for further reflection at school. Aside from that, your child may be asked to bring things in to support our learning or complete short tasks that coincide with something we’re inquiring about at school.
Communication: I will do my best to keep you informed regarding upcoming events, activities, and information about your child. I like to make “Sunshine Calls or e-mails” periodically to let you in on some positives that take place. When you receive such a message, please pass along the praise to your child and give them a “pat on the back” for their great efforts! If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me by phone, e-mail or through the planner. I am very flexible and would be happy to discuss any issues or concerns and I will do my best to respond to your messages/e-mails in a timely manner. This year, we will be working through our google classroom. Here, students will be able to complete tasks, and communicate through email. Once your child has accepted their google classroom invitation, it would be beneficial to attach your email to their account as well. To do this, you can either write your email address below and I will enter it, OR you can send me a quick email message and I can access your address to add to your child’s account. You’ll get an invitation once this has been set up. E-mails will be reserved for school-related information only. My e-mail address is:
a.wiebe@gotvdsb.ca
Each month, I’ll send home a class newsletter to let you know about important dates, curriculum connections, and things going on in our class. The newsletter will also be posted on our class website and google classroom in case your copy is misplaced. Our Wiebe Weasel Website address is:
https://sites.google.com/gotvdsb.ca/wiebeweaselwebsite/home
Be sure to check out the plethora of information including (upcoming) Picture Galleries and a wide variety of links in all subject areas. Students may find these websites handy as tools to assist in improving skills in various subject areas.
A flagged page in the planner will be a common place to store logins and passwords for the various computer programs we’ll be using throughout the year; many of which your child can access from home.
*Today, your child will bring home some items to be completed and returned to school.
My Goal: It is my desire to help students meet their fullest potential, to instill a love of
learning, to foster independence and to inspire students to inquire and have a positive
growth mindset! It’s a tall order, but one worth striving toward. I also know that it’s possible
to learn while having fun! I strive for excellence from myself and from my students. My goal
is to provide your child with one of the best years of their education! I am confident that
working together as a team, we will meet this goal if we put forth our best efforts all year.
Sincerely, and with eager anticipation of a great year,
Mrs. Wiebe ☺
