Most of you have known me from the past as your music teacher, but I'm incredibly excited to be teaching grade 7 and 8 to you this year. I have spent a lot of my teaching career teaching various forms of music, but a little known fact about me is that I actually really love a lot of other subjects, too. My absolute favourite subject was math when I was your age and once I got into high school, I fell in love with science. I'm still pretty partial to math, even in my old age.
Family
I have a fantastic husband whom many of you have met, or have seen helping with set up/tear down of concerts or fine tuning the sound. I have two daughters. My oldest is a huge fan of musical theatre and is heading back off to Sheridan College to work toward a degree in Musical Theatre. My youngest is a competitive gymnast who regularly scares me with her flips and tricks. She's heading into grade 11. To round out our family, we have an adorable and slightly deranged cat, named Ben.
Fun
I have a lot of interests. You might know that I love playing the piano, but I also enjoy hiking, reading, cooking, baking, playing sports, playing board games, doing puzzles and taking old furniture and making it look new. Truly the list could continue quite endlessly. My high school furniture making teacher called me a "Renaissance Woman" once. I'm not quite sure I would go that far, but I am most definitely the type of person who isn't going to let the fear of failure keep me from learning something new or challenging.
Advice
Become a person of integrity with a strong work ethic. These two character traits will take you farther than any other method of advancement.
