The Kindergarten program is a child-centered, developmentally appropriate, integrated program of learning for four- and five- year old children. The purpose of the program is to establish a strong foundation for learning in the early years, and to do so in a safe and caring, play-based environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of all children.
The Kindergarten program is a two-year program. It is a play-based and inquiry-based program, where your child will learn through purposeful play and free exploration. Our curriculum is based on four frames: Belonging and Contributing, Self-Regulation and Well-Being, Demonstrating Literacy and Mathematics Behaviours, and Problem Solving and Innovating. It is balanced with both indoor and outdoor play, and focuses on developing social/emotional skills as well as academics.
Each of our Kindergarten classrooms have two educators – a teacher and a Designated Early Childhood Educator. They work as a team to provide your child with a safe and engaging learning environment.
OUTDOOR PLAY
Outdoor play is an important and integral part of our Kindergarten Program. Our students participate in outdoor play daily. It helps to simulate and reinforce childrens' physical, emotional, social, and cognitive well-being.

Morning Entry: 9:00 am (supervision in FDK yard starting at 8:45 am)
Please drop your child off and begin your day. We cannot allow you to remain at the fence line to watch your child. This causes congestion and can often make the start of the day more difficult for your child trying to separate from you (often tears subside very soon after a parent leaves).
First Nutrition Break: 10:40-11:20
Second Nutrition Break: 1:20-2:10
Dismissal: 3:30pm
School starts on Wednesday, September 4th for all grade 1-8, including those in senior kindergarten.
On Thursday September 5th and Friday September 6th we will have staggered entry for our junior kindergarten students to support a smooth transition to school. The start date for your child will be communicated to you in a letter emailed home at the end of the summer (if your email changes before the start of the school year please contact the school in the last week of August).
We look forward to having you and your child join the Stoney Creek community!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When do I find out who my child's teacher is? You will receive an email in August..
What should I pack in my child's backpack?
Your child will need:
A complete change of clothing, labeled in a ziploc bag.
A labeled water bottle.
A pair of labeled indoor shoes.
A labeled lunch bag.
Do I have to pack lunch for my child every day? Yes. We have Pizza Lunch and Wellness Cafe organized by the Home and School Association and information about these dates ordering will come out in the first week of school.
What should I pack my child for snack or lunch? Healthy foods are best. We encourage you to have your child share in the decisions about what to pack as they will be more likely to eat that which they have chosen or helped prepare. It is important to note that due to nut allergies we ask that you carefully read all labels and not send any food with nuts to school.
Does my child's classroom teacher teach all the subject areas? At Stoney Creek, we have one specialty teachers who teaches Physical Education, Outdoor education, and Music to our kindergarten classes. The ECE in every class goes with the students to these specialty subjects so there is a familiar adult with them from day one.
What if my child arrives late to school in the morning? Push the buzzer to the left of the front door when you arrive. Come to the office to sign your child in and then they can go to class.
What if my child is sick or will be away from school? Please call the Safe Arrival Line at 1-844-305-3756 (please save this number in your contacts).
Will there be bussing for my child? Students enrolled at Stoney Creek that have a home address greater than 1.6 kms from school qualify for bussing (this is TVDSB policy and not a school-based policy). Registration is mandatory and will be available online at mybigyellowbus.ca in June or call 519-649-1160.
What if my child is sick or gets hurt while at school? The office staff or teacher will call to notify you.
Will my child get to play outdoors? Yes. There are two kindergarten yards designated just for our Kindergarten classes. They also have access to our primary playscape. It is important to note the weather each day and dress your child accordingly so he/she is comfortable and prepared for the conditions (i.e. rain boots, hats, coats etc.).
How do I get involved in the school and community?
Stoney Creek welcomes volunteers. Stoney Creek has an active and very involved School Council and Home and School Association who work hard to support and enrich the programming at the school. More information about volunteering or participating in School Council or Home and School will be shared in the Fall.
If your contact information changes throughout the summer or your plans for your child to attend Stoney Creek changes please email stoneycreek@tvdsb.ca.
Are you in need of before or after care? London Children's Connection runs a school age program in over 60 elementary schools, including Stoney Creek.
