HONOUR ROLL CRITERIA
The honour roll criteria have been updated to include a wider variety of course options that students are accessing as part of their learning plan through a school year. Courses taken between September 1 – August 31 of a school year will be used to calculate honour roll eligibility.
1. Criteria
In order to qualify for honour roll, students must be enrolled in a full-time program and can take courses from one or a combination of the following areas: TVDSB Secondary School (day school), any school in the Province of Ontario that follows the Ontario Curriculum, TVDVA, out-of-board eLearning, night school, dual credit and summer school. Eligible course credits earned between September and August of a school year (e.g. September 1, 2024 – August 31, 2025) will be used in the calculation of honour roll.
2. Weighted Average of Top Credits (repeated courses do not count towards credit totals; averages are NOT rounded up)
• Grade 9 and 10: Best 8 Credits - Weighted Average at Least 80.0%
• Grade 11: Best 7 Credits - Weighted Average at Least 80.0%
• Grade 12: Best 6 Credits - Weighted Average at Least 80.0%
3. Ontario Scholar Program
“The Ontario Scholar Program recognizes students who have earned an Ontario Secondary School Diploma in the current or previous school year and who have attained an aggregate of at least 480 marks in any combination of ministry approved courses that provide a total of 6 credits. Upon the recommendation of their principal, these graduating students receive a certificate from the Minister of Education” (OS, pg. 69)
Ministry-approved courses are the following:
• any Grade 12 university preparation, university/college preparation, college preparation, workplace preparation, and/or open courses authorized under OSS, including locally developed courses approved by the ministry
• cooperative education courses related to any of the above courses
• dual credit courses in college-delivered dual credit programs approved by the ministry
