Math class:
Typically the day starts with math...there will usually be a question/problem on the Smart board to activate their brains. It will either be review of concepts or designed to propel them into a new topic; or , it will be a "Number Talk" where we will work on our mental math skills.
As grade 8 teachers, we know that there were some important concepts that were missed during the shut down, as well, there are some new concepts in the new 2020 curriculum that we will also have to teach. As I said to the students, that is why my math class may go beyond the 60 minutes on our schedule.
A large part of grade 8 is learning how to properly communicate their answers - a simple numeric answer usually is insufficient. Therefore, they should follow models taught in class. To help them, they will have a dedicated Note Taking duotang, so that they can refer to the models I've taught in class.
