Co-operative Education:
There are two cooperative education courses that are available for secondary school students to provide them experiential learning opportunities based on their individual needs.
Creating Opportunities through Co-op (DCO3O)
In this course, students can explore a range of interests or create a focused experience bases on a particular interest. Within the context of an experience connected to the community, students work towards achieving the course expectations, which focus on developing skills, knowledge, and habits of mind that will support them in their education and career/life planning; protect and promote their health, safety, and well-being; and strengthen their inquiry, decision-making, and leadership skills.
For example: This coop course would be coded either DCO3S (for a single credit co-op of 110 hours) or
DCOS3D (for a double credit co-op of 220 hours).
Cooperative Education Linked to a Related Course (or Courses)
A cooperative education course must be based on a related course (or courses) from an Ontario curriculum policy document or on a ministry-approved locally developed course in which the student is enrolled or which he or she has successfully completed. The cooperative education course and the related course (or courses) together constitute a student’s cooperative education program, designed to suit the student’s strengths, interests, and needs and to enhance the student’s preparation for the future.
For example: a student may take a science course. (SBI3C) The in-class 'regular' course would be coded SBI3C1 (for 1 credit). The coop course would be coded either SBI3CS (for a single credit co-op of 110 hours) or SBI3CD (for a double credit co-op of 220 hours).
