May 11th- May 15th

My hope is that distance learning will be fun and enjoyable for you and your child. If you don’t have a printer, no worries don't print it out. Use any paper you have around the house. Your child can use a notebook, scrap paper, a white board, a chalkboard, the inside of a cereal box or a digital word file. Feel free to use pencils, pens, crayons or markers. If you don't have the appropriate materials just talk through the lessons from your screen or just skip that lesson. Don’t forget to take a picture of your child’s work to send to me so that I can give your child some feedback.

There is also a student online resource page that has many educational websites that your child can work on. Just click on the EXTRA TVDSB Learning Activities.

2) Probability is the likelihood that an event will occur. We can use different probability terms to describe the likelihood of an event.

Certain: 100% will happen without any doubt.

Likely: Probably will happen with a small chance it will not happen.

Equal Chance: a 50 - 50 % chance an event will occur.

Unlikely: Probably won’t happen but a small chance it could happen.

Impossible: Can never happen without a doubt.

3) EXPERIMENT: Heads or Tails?

Materials:

  • You will need a coin.

  1. Prediction: If you were to flip the coin 20 times, which side of the coin do you think will face upward most often - heads or tails? Consider the probability terms above and explain your thinking.
  2. Complete the experiment and record the outcome in a t-chart.

3. What did you observe?

4. Was your prediction correct?

5. Try the experiment a second time and record your results.

6. Does one side of the coin have a better chance of facing upward? Explain your thinking.

Blue Spruce: Each year the Ontario Library Association runs the Forest of Reading program. The Forest of Reading is Canada’s largest recreational reading program with over 270,000 participants every year. At McGregor, we participate in the Blue Spruce branch of the program which has 10 nominated picture books, all by Canadian authors.

Mrs. Telfer will be adding new books to this site each week. Each book's page will contain ideas for before and after reading. Don't worry about having the book available. The Blue Spruce authors have all recorded themselves reading their nominated books so we can "read" them at home. HAPPY READING!

Don't forget to checkout Ms. Craig's, Mr. Ambrose's, and Mrs. Telfer's google sites for some Music, Gym and Science activities this week!
