How to contact your ML (multilingual) language  teacher and SWIS

Our Stoney Creek community is made up of families from many countries, each with its own unique culture and language. We celebrate this diversity, as it enriches the learning experiences for all students. At Stoney Creek, we welcome students from all corners of the world, and offer language support for our MLs (multilingual learners).

In September 2019, we gathered data on the languages spoken in the homes of our Stoney Creek students. We were impressed with the linguistic diversity that is represented in our community. Take a look at the chart for a summary of this data:

WHO ARE MLs?

An ML (Multilingual language learner) is a student whose first language is other than English or is a variety of English that is significantly different from what is used for instruction in Ontario schools. Some of these students were born in Canada, while others are new to Canada, and being exposed to English for the first time.

HOW DO WE SUPPORT MLs?

In elementary schools, ML teachers work with students in their regular classroom, in a group, or individually. ML support programs are developed with the classroom teacher based on each student's needs.
