This course enables students to enhance their musical literacy through the creation, appreciation, analysis, and performance of music. Students will perform traditional, commercial, and art music, and will respond with insight to live and recorded performances. Students will enhance their understanding of the function of music in society and the impact of music on themselves and various communities and cultures. Students will analyse how to apply skills developed in music to their life and careers.

This class is for the advanced guitar player that has successfully completed grade 10 and 11 guitar. The class is an extension of the grade 10 and 11 courses and will focus on learning complex chords ("jazz" chords), advanced pieces (featuring multiple voices moving), and a strong focus on building musical independence (YouTube, chord charts, fake books, etc.). Students will continue to develop ear training skills, and study music theory and history. They will have the opportunity to once again demonstrate their learning by performing at the Winter or Spring concert.
