Under the Lights Soccer Series Success!
Central Elgin made the visit to Parkside Stadium on May 17th to play the Stampeders under the lights May 17th. The community event brought over 350 people to the game to witness a toe-to-toe match. There was a concession stand, mascots and half-time entertainment. Parkside and Central welcomed the St. Thomas U8 soccer team to join in the evening. All three teams walked out joining hands to line up for the National anthem. The St. Thomas U8 team entertained the crowd with a half time game and lots of dancing. There was an optional donation to make at the entrance in support of the Sick Kids Foundation. In collaboration with the girls game on May 8th, the Under the Lights Soccer Series raised $545.90! The game was entertaining to say the least. Close strikes by both teams, stellar goal tending and quick pace soccer. The score was 0-0 going into half. Shortly into the second half, Brendan Smida took a go from 24 yards out beating the Central keeper. That goal stood to be the lone goal of the match as Parkside celebrated a victory on their home field. All in all, the community event had a number of positive outcomes showing unity and prosperity for the soccer community and both St. Thomas schools.
