Problem: Sound is coming from Chromebook, instead of headset.  You have checked the headset.  It is powered on and Bluetooth is connected.

Solution: Check the audio source on the Chromebook.  It should automatically change to headset when they are powered on, but sometimes needs a manual switch.  Follow these steps: 1. Click at the bottom right of the Chromebook screen (by the time) to open the command panel. 2. Click the arrow to the right of the speaker symbol.  3. Select the output/input you wish to use.

Problem: when using the dictation feature on the Chromebook, spoken punctuation commands are showing as words instead of symbols.

Solution: Check language settings on Chromebook following these steps - 1. Open Settings. 2. Type "voice typing" in search bar at the top. 3. Under language, select "English US".  4. Close settings window and test dictation to ensure the problem is now resolved.

Read&Write Questions

Problem: Student opens Read&Write and some of the tools are greyed out and not available for use.

Solution: Ensure Chromebook only has ONE student profile connected.  Sign out, and remove all other users from device.  If the problem persists, check in settings to see if an update is pending for Chromebook.

OrbitNote Questions

Problem: OrbitNote screen opens showing toolbar but document area is blank and progress in centre is spinning.

Solution: This is often caused by a permissions error.  Follow these steps to reset OrbitNote: 1. In a new tab, click on OrbitNote in your extensions.  2. Click Sign Out from bottom of left menu.  3. Click Sign in with Google.  (If prompted, select your account.  If permissions window pops us, click the "select all" box before scrolling down to continue.) 4. Return to tab with OrbitNote file and refresh.  Document should now open completely.

Problem: Text on page is landscape but page is loading as portrait and OrbitNote tools are not functioning as they should.

Solution:  TVDSB is currently investigating an approved platform to rotate PDFs.  Until the approval process is complete, Learning Technologies suggests the following: 1. Capture a screenshot of the page you wish to rotate.  2. Open in the image editor and rotate.  3. Select Print and choose Microsoft Print to PDF instead of a printer option to save the rotated image as PDF to your Google Drive.

Mindomo Questions

Problem: I logged into Mindomo with my gotvdsb credentials, but it's not the premium student/educator account.

Solution:  1. Click the three lines beside your photo. 2.  Click on ‘Join School’. 3. Enter this code: PepuE

Problem: When trying to share a link with my students that can be edited, I see that it's only for the Pro version and I don't have access.

Solution:  Follow these steps to change from a Student to a Teacher account.
