No Spelling this week. We are almost finished our recorded books to share with Country Terrace. We will also share with you when we are done!

Week of December 7 - We continue to work on our writing our own Fables and recording electronic Christmas stories for Country Terrace. We are also working on adding and subtracting greater numbers. The students have excellent strategies, including: using base ten blocks to create the numbers, decompose the numbers and add the parts, using a number line.


Thank you to families who have donated to the 3Cs for Kids Christmas campaign. We are part of Team Polar Bear!! The whole school has raised $1700 so far!! Such kindness.

Week of November 30 - Character Trait Responsibility! Congrats to Emily and Landon!

Student Led Conferences are ready to be shared !! (for most students) Please listen as your child shares about his/her learning so far this fall. We are working on setting goals for improvement and plans to make these improvements.

We are now working on Word Sorts in class, specific to each student's spelling level. We sort, then sort again before gluing into our books.

Week of November 16 - Be Kind to Others this week (and always!)

RESPONSIBILITY CHALLENGE: Staring Monday, November 16, walkers will be dismissed at the bell to walk to their meeting spot. Ms. Schmalz, Mrs. Edy and Mrs. Moore-Nash are supervising this dismissal. If students have difficulty finding a parent, they are asked to go to one of these supervisors. Students are still expected to have a note in their planners if plans change on a day.

We got a head start on Take Me Outside Day. On Tuesday, we went outside during Math to make patterns using items found in nature. Beautiful patterns! Can you find each pattern core?

Week of October 19

Spelling due Friday with a Spell Check on Friday. We have been talking about practising the words at home before Fridays.

Please review the Math Test with your child. Sign the test and return it.

Our new Math Unit is Patterning. More info to come.

We'll be practising for the Halloween video for the Nursing Home next week. We're excited to share!!


Week of October 5

Spelling Due Friday

Notice of Math Test coming next week on Wed. Oct. 14 - Covers Chapter 2 of textbook:

  • counting by 2, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 to 1000;

  • Identifying, representing, comparing, and ordering 3-digit numbers;

  • rounding to nearest 10 and 100.

Students are encouraged to review questions in Chapter Review, pages 48 and 49. I have sent home answers to help confirm learning. If students do a few questions per night, from now until next Wednesday, they will be ready!! We are reviewing in class too.

Students may need help with the reading of the questions. THIS is ENCOURAGED!!

Welcome Newsletter 2020

Welcome back to school! I'm so happy to see you!! We will be learning our new routines in the first few weeks. Stay tuned!


Since we will be trying our best to limit sharing materials, it would be helpful if each student could bring the following items LABELLED:

-personal water bottles - only refilling stations will be available this year

-a soft pencil case containing coloured pencils and extra pencils

-a personal package of tissue

- unscented personal hand sanitizer

- small labelled headphones or earbuds for use with Chromebooks and iPads
