Class Requirements

CLASS REQUIREMENTS

All students are required to register for at least 7 classes each semester until they are seniors. The eighth period may be used for taking an additional class, study hall or teacher aide. Seniors will be allowed to have a study hall or be a teacher aide, but are encouraged to carry seven or eight subjects whenever possible. Students in grade 10-12 have the opportunity to be a teacher aide.

Cooperative education students, those enrolled in “on the job” cooperative education, must enroll in at least four courses. Students will be available to work for the cooperative education program only during the school hours they are not scheduled to be in a class.

Students may take only one Independent Study course per semester. Independent courses will count as one of the seven required classes only if they meet one period every day of the week. Please see the course description for more information.

Students should register only for those courses which they fully intend to complete. A student who must drop a course must do so within the first week of the semester for which he is currently registered. Any student who thinks it is necessary to drop a course after classes begin must submit a letter from his/her parents/guardian stating explicitly why the student needs to drop the course. Any drop after the third full week of class must be cleared by the guidance counselor, principal and parents/guardians and will be entered on the student’s permanent record as either (WP withdrew passing or (WF) withdrew failing. Withdrew failing will result in a 0 for the class and will be figured into the student’s Grade Point Average.

Students should always make sure required courses have been completed. Double check with your counselor should you have any questions.
