Student learn about the Components of Health-Related Fitness through games and activities. One favorite muscular strength activity is shooting a bow and arrow during our archery unit! Students participate in tests and create goals and a fitness plan to track improvement. Student learn safety and technique in the Don't Quit Fitness Center as well as with various other equipment in the gym. They learn a variety of different warm-ups and exercises to work on their cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility.
Skill-related fitness such as reaction time, agility, and coordination are emphasized during our invasion game units. Overhand throwing technique as well as opposition in sports and activities are stressed to show connections to other activities and skills. Lead up games, team building games, challenges and activities such as team handball, Omnikin, capture the football and floor/street hockey are common activities in 6th grade.
