K-5 Literacy Curriculum Overview

Our goal is to provide students with consistent skills instruction by using best practice approaches in order to develop foundational skills, reading comprehension, and the writing process. Many of our curricular materials are from Center for the Collaborative Classroom. These units of study are taught within a meaningful context and exhibit very strong alignment to our graduation standards, and performance indicators. Students have daily opportunities to see the teacher model (through mentor text), are prompted with questions that encourage deep thinking, and are actively engaged in applying strategies through reading, peer discussions, and writing.
