Laughn Berthiaume was born and raised in Fort Kent, Maine and graduated from Fort Kent Community High School in 1994. Laughn played 4 years of varsity soccer, basketball, and baseball. Laughn is a member of the Fort Kent 1000 point club in basketball, finishing his career with 1, 141 points as he lead the St. John Valley in scoring his junior and senior year. As a junior, Laughn toured France and England with a Maine State Soccer All Star team and during his senior soccer season he received All New England honors. Fort Kent retired his soccer and basketball jerseys in June of 1994.College
Laughn attended the University of Maine at Farmington from 1994-1998. He played soccer, basketball, and baseball his freshmen year before deciding to focus on being a two sport athlete. In basketball, Laughn was a team captain and an All State Player his senior year as well as being the Maine Athletic Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year. He holds the record for career free throw percentage in school history at just under 85%. He is also 3rd in 3-point field goal percentage. On the soccer field, Laughn was named the 1996 Maine Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He was a two time All American and he holds the UMF scoring records. He holds single season records in goals (25) and assists (14) as well as career records for goals (56) and assists (34). Laughn was also a two time Academic All American. Upon graduation, Laughn was invited to try out professionally for the Connecticut Wolves and the Eastern Indoor Soccer League. He was inducted into the UMF Athletic Hall of Fame in September of 2014.Career
Laughn graduated from Farmington in 1998 and started his teaching career at Cascade Brook Elementary School in Farmington. He was an assistant soccer coach at UMF and coached jv boys basketball at Mt. Blue High School in Farmington. In 2000, Laughn moved to San Diego and sold cars at Aloha Motors, a used car lot in Southern California near the Mexican Border. He returned to Maine in 2004 and returned to teaching when he was hired in Gorham that November. He started with the girls’ basketball team in the 2004-2005 season as an assistant. He took over the program as the head coach during the 2007-2008 season. During his time in Gorham, Laughn has been named the Conference Coach of the Year twice and the Maine State Coach of the Year 5 times. The Rams enjoyed back-to-back undefeated seasons in 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 when they captured the first two AA State Championships. Gorham has 4 Regional Championships and 2 State Championships during his time. Laughn has coached 6 Division 1 players at GHS.Check back soon for Bio
