MS INDOOR TRACK EXPECTATIONS
Announcements --
MEETS- If a meet is Canceled on a school day an announcement will be made at school as well as posted on MS XC & Track web page. If canceled day of, there will be an alert message that goes out via email, check if it's inclement weather.
PRACTICES- If a practice is canceled there will be announcements at school. It is up to the student to relay this message to home. If it's a planned cancelation, I will notify the team ahead of time.
PRACTICES
•Attendance is expected at 3:4 practices. See “Team Policy” below.
•Track practice will be 2:30 P to 4:00; Mon., Tue., Wed., and Thur.
There will be NO Practice during the week of February vacation.
•Equipment is to be used responsibly so as not to cause injury or damage.
•Always bring a filled plastic/metal water bottle with your name on it, regardless of the weather.
•Proper attire is required:
-Be prepared for inside AND outside practice. Often, practices are split 1/2 inside, 1/2 outside.
Sweatshirts, sweatpants, shorts, T-shirts, running sneakers, hats, gloves.
•A positive attitude is crucial. We are all here to learn and improve. Help teammates by encouraging and sharing prior knowledge.
•Cell phones are a distraction and a safety issue. Leave them in your bag in the lockerroom.
No jewelry should be worn in practice or meets. Leave it in your bag in the lockerroom.
MEETS
All Meets are at the Portland Expo Center, 239 Park Ave. Portland, ME. Give yourself time to find adequate parking.
•Be at the Middle school at the designated time – 1:30 before meet. Ex: 8 am meet, bus leaves at 7 am, students 6:30 am.
BE PROMPT.
•Be in uniform before boarding the bus. The bus is not a locker room and there is no place to change at the Expo
-Students must ride the bus to meets. Exceptions are only made if there is a conflict, and arrangements MUST be PRE-APPROVED by the AD and coach prior to the meet.
We will try to sit in the same area of the gym each week.
If you are going home with a parent they must sign you out with a coach.
Monday - Thursday 2:30 - 4:00, Late bus pick up at 4:05
We do not practice on half days or holidays.
At the end of the school day you are dismissed with walkers and then you get ready for practice. Please do not come down early. Bags should be left along the bleachers in the gymnasium or in the lockeroom.
Athletes are expected to be at practice each day unless there is a valid reason for missing. For example, if they're sick, there is a family emergency, they have an additional commitment (no more than 1 day per week),
Meet in the Gym ready at 2:30. Practice will begin as soon as possible, typically between 2:235/45
All races take place at the Portland Expo.
Races are typically every Saturday in March
There will be a bus from the middle school to the Expo and back home. Students may leave after all events are completed and after they've picked up their area and signed out.
Note: Meets can run anywhere from 1:45 to min-2:30 hrs depending on the size of the other teams.
6th Grade events
Circle events - 150 yard dash, 240 yard dash, 440 yard run, 600 yard run, Mile
Straight events - 40 yard dash, 55 yard Hurdles
Field events - Shot put
Relay - 4x150
7th Grade events
Circle events - 150 yard dash, 240 yard dash, 440 yard run, 1000 yard run, Mile
Straight events - 40 yard dash, 55 yard Hurdles
Field events - High Jump, Shot put
Relay - 4x150
8th Grade events
Circle events - 240 yard dash, 300 yard run, 440 yard run, 1000 yard run, Mile
Straight events - 40 yard dash, 55 yard Hurdles
Field events - High Jump, Shot put
Relay - 4x240
Runners are allowed to compete in 2 events each meet.
Each event must be from a different category
There is one exception were 3 events can be entered, but this is rare.
A third event may be entered if one event is a relay and another event is a field event. For example; you may be in the shot-put, relay, and 440. But not in the Hurdles, 150, and relay
