Drawing pictures is a form of storytelling and any form of practicing handwriting or writing develops fine motor skills needed for writing.
This is the alphabet card we use to teach letter knowledge and sounds. Each day we go through the card saying the letter name, the picture, the sound and then the picture again. For example:
"A, apple, ah, ah apple". We have some cool actions to go with each letter, too.
Here is an example of how the children write their stories. First they draw a picture. They then write their name. Afterwards they think of a sentence. For each word, they are working on hearing the sounds and writing down what they hear. They may only hear the first sound of the word which is fine. Mistakes are okay, it is all about encouraging them to write on their own.
