Teaching Philosophy

Many students within special education programs need remediation in the inclusion classroom. It is my hope that I can assist as a co-teacher and build an appreciation for education that students will carry beyond the world of academia, and into their respective fields. As a co-teacher I am available to the students as they practice their new skills and offer assistance as needed though guided direction, oral administration, and problem solving. I assist with open discussions, writing assignments, and collaborative groups to help the students begin to develop their problem solving skills. By integrating different forms of media, music, academic articles, textbooks, and personal experience, I create an active learning environment where students respond.

Students can bring much diversity into the classroom and it is my responsibility to create an environment that enhances the quality of instruction. I assist in IEP implementation and make sure that students are receiving appropriate accommodations and modifications in the classroom. In an effort to promote active learning and teach the students in a variety of forms, I frame their lessons by providing a student friendly learning objective and teach in the power zone with lecture, manipulatives, and technology. Lessons are enriched with small group discussion and purposeful talk between groups of students. This time allows me to assess the students learning and recognize or reinforce a topic when needed. All of this is tied together by encouraging critical writing among the students culminating in a more productive learning environment.

Personal Profile

I was born in Graham, Texas and raised in Mineral Wells, Texas. I attended Garner ISD through the 8th grade and then spent my high school years at Millsap. After graduation I spent the next 4 years at Tarleton State University and then 2 more years working towards my Masters Degree at The University of North Texas.

I married my best friend, James Adams in 2011 and have had the pleasure to travel around Texas with his job as State Park Superintendent with Texas Parks and Wildlife. We have an amazing son, Walter Adams, who is almost two years old. My husbands' job will be moving us to our next journey in Strawn, Texas as he assumes the supervisory role at Palo Pinto Mountains State Park.

Aside from teaching, I love white water kayaking/rafting, traveling to the mountains for family vacations, sewing, scrapbooking, and crafting!
