RoyalRoyal Crescent Allotment Society

You will find us in Penydarren, on the side of the valley above Merthyr Tydfil, half way to Dowlais Top. At just over 800 feet above sea level we are not the highest allotment in South Wales, but we are high enough. We face more or less south, where the sun normally shines.

We have 130 registered members and 100 plots and there are now more lady members and several families. Each plot has access to water and its own tap. Most of us have made a place to keep manure which is delivered from the road adjacent to each plot.  Annual fees for 2023 are £30 for a full plot and £15 for a half plot, fees are due in February.  There is  also is a charge of £10 to cover insurance and membership of the National Association so £40 altogether for a full plot and £25 for half a plot.  The fee for helpers, (now classed as members) is £10 each and a plot with chickens is charged an additional £8. If you are considering joining, get in touch with our Plot Manager - David Jones . You can also apply online by clicking here. If you want to add a structure (shed, greenhouse etc.) then please click here.

Over the years we have been successful in obtaining grants to improve the allotment, the roads and our other facilities. We opened a Woodland Walk in July, 2015, on some abandoned plots, and it was awarded its first Green Flag by Keep Wales Tidy in  2016.  The flag has been awarded every year since then.

If you want to arrange a visit to the Walk contact Leon - royalcresentallotments@gmail.com

Look at this website to find out more and for the latest information go to Allotment News, which is updated monthly.  There is also a Photo Diary which gives you an idea of what's going on. The Stores price list is here.

We are a lively, sometimes argumentative, occasionally noisy group, but usually peaceful, mutually helpful, witty, knowledgeable and a very contented lot. Allotment rules are here.

Don't forget the gates are open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. from April to October and every Saturday throughout the year if you want to visit. Everyone is welcome.
