Dear GPA Parent/Guardian,

Welcome to the Virtual ENS Classroom! I am honored and lucky to be teaching your student as we start this school year. This is my 7th year here at Gompers Preparatory Academy and I have had the honor to meet and work with amazing parents and guardians throughout my career. Even though this is a huge change from what we are all used to, I am confident with your help, we can have your child have a successful school year. This year you and I are a team. I am on the virtual side and you are on the in person side. I will do everything I can virtually to ensure your student's success. In person I will you need your help with these next couple of things:

Ways to Help From Home

1) Make your sure your student is on time to all of their classes.

2) Make sure your student has no distractions close by during their classes. No cell phones or tablets should be by a student's classwork zone during class.

3) Make sure your student is prepared for all their classes. Students will need pencil, pens, and paper for their classes.

4) Encourage your student to share things they did in class today.

5) Make sure your student has their computer charged and ready the night before.

6) Make sure student is wearing proper GPA uniform to their classes.

I am positive with your help on these 6 items we can ensure success for your student during these difficult times. Here are the expectations that I have for our students during this virtual school year:

Expectations for Students

  1. Make sure your surroundings are proper

  2. Leave a respectful digital footprint by not sharing embarrassing, illegal, or inappropriate content.

  3. Adhere to the GPA Code of Conduct handbook

  4. Adhere to the GPA Technology Use Policy (pg. 17)

  5. Adhere to GPA culture, non-negotiables, REACH values, and core beliefs.

  6. Complete and turn in assignments on time

Parents, if your child is ill and will not be able to participate for the day, please email the attendance office at attendance@gomperscharter.org and me at vperez@gomperscharter.org

I appreciate you taking the time to read this letter and I am looking forward to get to know you and your student in person when the time is right. Even though we are all starting off the year virtually, I am confident this still will be an amazing year. Thank you again and stay safe.

Sincerely,

Vincent Perez

Mr. Perez 6th Grade ENS Course Syllabus - Virtual Mod

"Take care of your body. It's the only place you have to live." - Jim Rohn

Welcome to Exercise and Nurtional Science (ENS) here at Gompers Preparatory Academy! In this course students will explore a variety of physical activities that will improve their health and fitness levels. In turn, my goal as an ENS teacher is to ensure ALL students are turned on to a lifelong appreciation and love for physical activity and fitness.

In this course students will learn skills and activities that they can do on their own and with others to keep them physically active. Students will engage in individual physical activities that improve strength and endurance while also competing in team activities to help them improve teamwork, communication, and learning how to win and lose the right way. This course will also teach fundamental movement skills of coordinated and balanced movements. Mastering fundamental movement skills at an early age establishes a foundation that facilitates further motor skill acquisition and gives students increased capacity for a lifetime of successful and enjoyable physical activity experiences. Similarly, the patterns of physical activity acquired during childhood and adolescence are likely to be maintained throughout one’s life span, providing physical, mental, and social benefits.

Mr. PErez

ENS Teacher

High School Boys Varsity Basketball Coach

About me

Hi, I'm Mr. Perez and this will be my 7th year teaching ENS at Gompers Preparatory Academy. It has been an honor and privilege to serve our community for the last 7 years and I have loved every second of it. The reason I became an ENS teacher is because of my love for physical activity and its positive effects on your mind, body, and soul. I have always felt that physical activity has a great way of bringing everyone together and achieving fun and healthy goals. In my free time I try to do as many physical activities as possible such as running, lifting weights, and playing sports. My favorite physical activity to engage in is basketball. I have been lucky enough to be able to be High School Varsity Basketball coach for the past 5 seasons here at GPA as well. I feel like I have the two greatest jobs in the world; being an ENS teacher and coaching basketball. I am excited to get this year started and I am honored to be serving our community once again!
