When two different people are editing the same shared Google Doc, a highlighted cursor will appear on the Doc where the other person is making changes. There will also be a profile photo displayed of the person who’s editing in the top right hand corner of the Doc window.

Highlight a word or a section of a Doc you’d like to comment on.
Click on the + button in the toolbar above.
Type your comment in the comment box.
To Tag someone type the “@” symbol and type in the email address of the person you’d like to direct the comment to.
Check the Assign to button to assign the comment.
Click the Assign Button to finish.

Open up the Google Doc you’d like to share
Click on the blue SHARE button in the top right hand corner of the document window
Select the file permissions you’d like to give the person you’re sharing the file with by clicking on the permissions button located to the right of the email address entry box.
The three permission types you can give someone are as follows:
- Can Edit - This person can edit whatever file you share with them however they cannot delete the file!
- Can Comment - This person can view and comment on the file you’ve shared with them but cannot make any changes to the file.
- Can View - Someone can view the file you’ve shared with them but cannot comment or edit the file in any way.
Enter in the email address/addresses of the person/people you’d like to share the file with.
Once you’ve entered in an email address a box will appear allowing you to type a note to the people you’ve shared the file with if you wish.
Once you’re done, click Send.

Open the Doc you’d like to see the contributions of.
At the top of the document window click on the All changes saved in Drive link next to the Help menu.
Click on the dates in the timeline on the right hand side to view all of the contributions made to your Doc and at what time/date those changes were made.
The different Users who made the contributions will be color coded. One color for each user. Their contributions will show up in the Doc highlighted in their color.
