Dec.  8-12

• We will finish our infectious disease unit with new content by Wednesday. Thursday we will study and Friday will be our final assessment. Students will be applying what they have learned to new situations. It is very important for them to be at school this week so they aren't missing important information that we learn together in class. 

• Also a reminder that ALL work for this marking period is due on Friday, December 12th. 

• If your 6th grader misses a class, please have them review emails because if they need to catch up on something I will send them what to do. They will need to complete any work I email them about so they don't get behind. 

• Terminaremos nuestra unidad de enfermedades infecciosas con contenido nuevo el miércoles. El jueves estudiaremos y el viernes tendremos la evaluación final. Los alumnos aplicarán lo aprendido a nuevas situaciones. Es muy importante que asistan a la escuela esta semana para que no se pierdan la información importante que aprendemos juntos en clase.

• También les recordamos que TODOS los trabajos de este periodo de calificaciones deben entregarse el viernes 12 de diciembre.

• Si su hijo/a de sexto grado falta a clase, por favor, pídale que revise sus correos electrónicos, ya que si necesita ponerse al día con alguna tarea, le enviaré las instrucciones. Deberá completar cualquier tarea que le envíe por correo electrónico para no atrasarse.

Week of  Janaury 5-9

Please keep in mind that we have three types of assignments:

Cool Downs: Quick quizzes completed in class at the end of each lesson. If absent, can be found as a Google Form or Google Drawing in Classroom.

Practice Problems:  Completed as classwork or homework for additional practice at the end of the lesson. These are found in the book or in the online textbook in Google Classroom.

Khan Academy: The problems for this unit as assigned in the online app as we complete the unit.  These will be due at the end of  the unit. Students can work on these online at any time at home or at school.

This week, we will be begin the second half of unit 3 which focuses on solving percentage problems.  These lessons will take about two weeks with a unit test following.

Semana del 5 al 9 de enero

Tengan en cuenta que tenemos tres tipos de tareas:

Repasos rápidos: Cuestionarios cortos que se completan en clase al final de cada lección. Si están ausentes, pueden encontrarlos como un formulario o dibujo de Google en Classroom.

Problemas de práctica: Se completan como trabajo en clase o tarea para practicar adicionalmente al final de la lección. Se encuentran en el libro o en el libro de texto en línea en Google Classroom.

Khan Academy: Los problemas de esta unidad se asignan en la aplicación en línea a medida que completamos la unidad. La fecha límite de entrega será al final de la unidad. Los estudiantes pueden trabajar en ellos en línea en cualquier momento, en casa o en la escuela.

Esta semana comenzaremos la segunda mitad de la unidad 3, que se centra en la resolución de problemas de porcentajes. Estas lecciones durarán aproximadamente dos semanas, seguidas de una prueba de unidad.

Aug.  25-Sept. Sept. 26, 2025

• ELA grammar, this WEEK: ELA Grammar Slides review basic 6th -rammar skills: parts of speech (nouns, proper nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, articles, and conjunctions), subject and predicates, proper usage of punctuation (commas, quotation marks, and apostrophes), homophones, synonyms, and antonyms. 

• Students will start a NEW unit: Unit 1

  • Unit 1 - Personal Narrative (Beginning, middle, and end) - Completed on Sept. 26, 2025

  • Unit 2 - "The Cay" Novel focuses on mood, tone, stated, implied, and character traits - First half due Oct. 24th, 2025

    • "Cited" Text evidence (R.A.C.E = restatement, answer, cited evidence, and explanation).

Common Core State Standards:   

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.6.3: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective techniques, relevant descriptive details, and well-structured event sequences.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.6.3.A: Engage and orient the reader by establishing a context and introducing a narrator and/or characters; organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally and logically.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.6.3.B: Use narrative techniques, such as dialogue, pacing, and description, to develop experiences, events, and/or characters.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.6.3.C: Use a variety of transition words, phrases, and clauses to convey sequence and signal shifts from one-time frame or setting to another.

Homework occurs ONLY if students DO NOT complete work while in class or miss a class and need to get caught up.

• Gramática de ELA esta SEMANA: Diapositivas de gramática de ELA repasan las habilidades gramaticales básicas de sexto grado: partes de la oración (sustantivos, nombres propios, pronombres, verbos, adverbios, adjetivos, artículos y conjunciones), sujeto y predicados, uso adecuado de la puntuación (comas, comillas y apóstrofes), homófonos, sinónimos y antónimos.

• Los estudiantes comenzarán una NUEVA unidad: Escritura información

  • Unidad 1- Personal Narratives

  • Unidad 2 - "The Cay" Mood, tone, direct, implied, and character traits

    • "Cited" Text evidence (R.A.C.E = restatement, answer, cited evidence, and explain).
