This week, we will continue Unit 5, Human-Environment Interaction, and be learning about the consequences of resource use, the life cycle of a water bottle, energy and climate change, and how humans modify the environment. We are in our forces and motion unit. This week our focus is around acceleration, crushing, force reviewing the investigations we have done so far and which materials are best for cushioning an object to reduce impacts. We will also look at car crashes and the force impacts that occur with them.
If your 6th grader misses a class, please have them review emails because if they need to catch up on something I will send them what to do. They will need to complete any work I email them about so they don't get behind.
Estamos en nuestra unidad de fuerzas y movimiento. Esta semana nos centraremos en la aceleración, el aplastamiento, la fuerza, repasando las investigaciones que hemos realizado hasta ahora y qué materiales son los mejores para amortiguar un objeto y reducir los impactos. Week of March 16-20
Please keep in mind that we have three types of assignments:
Cool Downs: Quick quizzes completed in class at the end of each lesson. If absent, can be found as a Google Form or Google Drawing in Classroom.
Practice Problems: Completed as classwork or homework for additional practice at the end of the lesson. These are found in the book or in the online textbook in Google Classroom.
Khan Academy: The problems for this unit as assigned in the online app as we complete the unit. These will be due at the end of the unit. Students can work on these online at any time at home or at school.
This week, we will continue our work on equations and expressions. We will complete a lesson for each day. Each lesson has a Cool Down to complete, practice problems from the book, and Khan Academy work that students should be completing.

ELA grammar, this WEEK: ELA Grammar Slides review basic 6th -rammar skills: parts of speech (nouns, proper nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, articles, and conjunctions), subject and predicates, proper usage of punctuation (commas, quotation marks, and apostrophes), homophones, synonyms, and antonyms.
Students will start a NEW unit: Unit 1
Unit 1 - Personal Narrative (Beginning, middle, and end) - Completed on Sept. 26, 2025
Unit 2 - "The Cay" Novel focuses on mood, tone, stated, implied, and character traits - First half due Oct. 24th, 2025
"Cited" Text evidence (R.A.C.E = restatement, answer, cited evidence, and explanation).
Common Core State Standards:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.6.3: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective techniques, relevant descriptive details, and well-structured event sequences.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.6.3.A: Engage and orient the reader by establishing a context and introducing a narrator and/or characters; organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally and logically.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.6.3.B: Use narrative techniques, such as dialogue, pacing, and description, to develop experiences, events, and/or characters.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.6.3.C: Use a variety of transition words, phrases, and clauses to convey sequence and signal shifts from one-time frame or setting to another.
Homework occurs ONLY if students DO NOT complete work while in class or miss a class and need to get caught up.
