This week in science we are working through how water moves due to thermal energy or heat. We will spend a lot of time studying and drawing models to show understanding. By the end the week we will start looking at states of matter and how they are connected to the water cycle and processes.
If your 6th grader misses science class, it is very important to check in and see what they missed or can get caught up on. I will send a paper home if they need it. If they have technology at home, they can sign into google classroom too to work online.
Esta semana, en la clase de ciencias, estamos estudiando cómo se desplaza el agua debido a la energía térmica o al calor. Dedicaremos gran parte del tiempo a analizar y dibujar modelos para demostrar lo aprendido. Hacia el final de la semana, comenzaremos a abordar los estados de la materia y su relación con el ciclo del agua y sus procesos.
Si su hijo o hija de sexto grado falta a la clase de ciencias, es muy importante que averigüe qué se perdió o qué debe ponerse al día. Enviaré material impreso a casa si lo necesitan. Si disponen de tecnología en el hogar, también pueden iniciar sesión en Google Classroom para trabajar en línea.

Please keep in mind that we have three types of assignments:
Cool Downs: Quick quizzes completed in class at the end of each lesson. If absent, can be found as a Google Form or Google Drawing in Classroom.
Practice Problems: Completed as classwork or homework for additional practice at the end of the lesson. These are found in the book or in the online textbook in Google Classroom.
Khan Academy: The problems for this unit as assigned in the online app as we complete the unit. These will be due at the end of the unit. Students can work on these online at any time at home or at school.
This week we will continue working on lessons in Unit 1 (Area and Surface Area).

ELA grammar, this WEEK: ELA Grammar Slides review basic 6th -rammar skills: parts of speech (nouns, proper nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, articles, and conjunctions), subject and predicates, proper usage of punctuation (commas, quotation marks, and apostrophes), homophones, synonyms, and antonyms.

Students will start a NEW unit: Unit 1
Unit 1 - Personal Narrative (Beginning, middle, and end) - Completed on Sept. 25, 2026
Unit 2 - "The Cay" Novel focuses on mood, tone, stated, implied, and character traits - First half due Oct. 24th, 2026
"Cited" Text evidence (R.A.C.E = restatement, answer, cited evidence, and explanation).
Common Core State Standards:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.6.3: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective techniques, relevant descriptive details, and well-structured event sequences.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.6.3.A: Engage and orient the reader by establishing a context and introducing a narrator and/or characters; organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally and logically.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.6.3.B: Use narrative techniques, such as dialogue, pacing, and description, to develop experiences, events, and/or characters.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.6.3.C: Use a variety of transition words, phrases, and clauses to convey sequence and signal shifts from one-time frame or setting to another.
Homework occurs ONLY if students DO NOT complete work while in class or miss a class and need to get caught up.
