May 4-8

• We are continuing with our plant unit focusing this week inherited traits and genes within plants. We will continue to look at our plants two days a week. Focusing on the concepts we are studying within the classroom. 

•  If your 6th grader misses a class, please have them review emails because if they need to catch up on something I will send them what to do. They will need to complete any work I email them about so they don't get behind. 

• Continuamos con nuestra unidad sobre las plantas, centrándonos esta semana en los rasgos hereditarios y los genes en las plantas. Seguiremos observando nuestras plantas dos días a la semana, enfocándonos en los conceptos que estamos estudiando en el aula.

• Si su hijo o hija de sexto grado falta a clase, por favor pídale que revise su correo electrónico; en caso de que necesite ponerse al día con alguna tarea, le enviaré por ese medio las instrucciones sobre lo que debe hacer. Será necesario que completen cualquier trabajo que les envíe por correo electrónico para evitar que se retrasen.

Please keep in mind that we have three types of assignments:

Cool Downs: Quick quizzes completed in class at the end of each lesson. If absent, can be found as a Google Form or Google Drawing in Classroom.

Practice Problems:  Completed as classwork or homework for additional practice at the end of the lesson. These are found in the book or in the online textbook in Google Classroom.

Khan Academy: The problems for this unit as assigned in the online app as we complete the unit.  These will be due at the end of  the unit. Students can work on these online at any time at home or at school.

This week we wrap up our lessons on unit 8.  There will be no unit 8 test but there will be questions from unit 8 on the exam.  Also, we are having a vocabulary quiz on unit 8 on Thursday.

Here is a rundown of the week:

T-Lesson 15 Cool Down and Khan Academy

W-Vocabulary  Box Completion and Khan Academy

H-Vocabulary Quiz and Khan Academy

F-Last day for any missing work, Khan Academy work is due

Esta semana concluimos las lecciones de la Unidad 8. No habrá examen específico de la Unidad 8, pero sí se incluirán preguntas de esta unidad en el examen final. Además, el jueves tendremos una prueba de vocabulario sobre la Unidad 8.

• ELA grammar, this WEEK: ELA Grammar Slides review basic 6th -rammar skills: parts of speech (nouns, proper nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, articles, and conjunctions), subject and predicates, proper usage of punctuation (commas, quotation marks, and apostrophes), homophones, synonyms, and antonyms. 

• Students will start a NEW unit: Unit 1

  • Unit 1 - Personal Narrative (Beginning, middle, and end) - Completed on Sept. 26, 2025

  • Unit 2 - "The Cay" Novel focuses on mood, tone, stated, implied, and character traits - First half due Oct. 24th, 2025

    • "Cited" Text evidence (R.A.C.E = restatement, answer, cited evidence, and explanation).

Common Core State Standards:   

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.6.3: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective techniques, relevant descriptive details, and well-structured event sequences.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.6.3.A: Engage and orient the reader by establishing a context and introducing a narrator and/or characters; organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally and logically.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.6.3.B: Use narrative techniques, such as dialogue, pacing, and description, to develop experiences, events, and/or characters.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.6.3.C: Use a variety of transition words, phrases, and clauses to convey sequence and signal shifts from one-time frame or setting to another.

Homework occurs ONLY if students DO NOT complete work while in class or miss a class and need to get caught up.
