TIGER TIME/ADVISORY IS HOSTED ON TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS
About Me: I studied philosophy at Fort Hays State University and pursued a master's degree in English Literature at Wichita State University. I originally used to teach only college writing, but I decided I wanted to venture into the world of high school and bring what I learned about teaching at the college-level to the high school classroom. My academic passion lies in the humanities, arts, and literature, particularly 18th and 19th century British literature and composition studies. I'm also an avid poet and have been involved with the local literary journal Mikrokosmos. I truly believe writing is fundamentally important for EVERY student, teacher, etc -- so yes, we will be writing! Sometimes even together!
I'm originally from Pennsylvania but became a Kansas resident in 2020 during COVID times. I actually adore the Midwest and consider Kansas to be one of the most breathtaking states I've ever seen. (I know, I know... but the sky in this state? Incredible.)
When I'm not reading, writing, grading papers, or spending time with my amazing yearbook staff, you can find me at a Starbucks working on my own writing or trying my heart out at Zumba. It's a new hobby I'm picking up... I'm not good at it -- not yet! (That's the power of yet...)
Education:
Master of Science, Fort Hays State University (Curriculum & Instructional Design), 2025
Master of Arts, Wichita State University (English Literature and Composition Studies), 2022
Bachelor of Arts, Fort Hays State University (Philosophy), 2020
Quick facts about my personality: I adore matcha tea, and currently, my literary obsessions revolve around Edgar Allan Poe and George Lippard. I'm also working on a book of poetry, so if you share a love for poetry, feel free to share your thoughts with me. Besides the greats, I love good thrillers, murder mysteries, and ghost stories. The spookier, the better!
For your Eisenhower High School experience: I serve as the yearbook advisor and the sponsor for Quill and Scroll, the international society for high school journalists and creative writers. If you're interested in joining the yearbook team or pursuing journalism in college, please reach out to me. I love to share publication opportunities with my students, so keep your eyes own open for Quill and Scroll's annual creative writing and art contest. One of my academic interests is literary journalism and preserving shared histories.
Things to always remember: You belong here. Your voice matters. If you need support, guidance, or simply someone to listen, my door is always open. Having you as my student is both an honor and a privilege. I am invested in your success, and I will do everything I can to help you reach your goals.
Here's to an amazing year! I cannot wait to see what you create!
