About me: I studied philosophy at Fort Hays State University and pursued a master's degree in English Literature at Wichita State University. I originally used to teach only college writing, but I decided I wanted to venture into the world of high school and bring what I learned about teaching at the college-level to the high school classroom. My academic passion lies in the humanities, arts, and literature, particularly 18th and 19th century British literature and composition studies. I'm also an avid poet and have been involved with the local literary journal Mikrokosmos.
I'm originally from Pennsylvania but became a Kansas resident in 2020. I adore the Midwest and consider Kansas to be one of the most breathtaking states I've ever seen.
Quick facts about my personality: I adore matcha tea, and currently, my literary obsessions revolve around Edgar Allan Poe and George Lippard. I'm also working on a book of poetry, so if you share a love for poetry, feel free to share your thoughts with me.
For your Eisenhower High School experience: I serve as the yearbook advisor and the sponsor for Quill and Scroll, the international society for high school journalists. If you're interested in joining the yearbook team or pursuing journalism in college, please reach out to me. Additionally, I aim to establish a literary journal at EHS and would be thrilled to collaborate with students interested in creative writing or the publishing industry. One of my academic interests is literary journalism and preserving shared histories.
New to the 2024-2025 school year: As Eisenhower's Quill & Scroll sponsor for journalism and publications, we are continuing our creative writing club with the goal of curating submissions for a publishing opportunity in Voices of Kansas. If you are interested in publishing any creative writing or visual art, please see attend one of our Quill & Scroll meetings every Wednesday.
Things to always remember: You belong everywhere, your voice matters, and I'm here to listen if anything upsets you, whether inside or outside the classroom. Having you as my student is an honor and a privilege, and you should never hesitate to seek help. Your success is what I strive for everyday and I want you to succeed.
Here's to an amazing year!
