I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the new school year of 2024 - 2025. I am very excited to kickoff the new year as I will be not only a first year teacher at Eisenhower but this will also be my first year teaching! We have been busy preparing for your return. Life's not about expecting, hoping and wishing; it's about doing, being and becoming. I look forward to meeting with all of you and helping you reach your professional goals

I am currently in grad school at Wichita State University and in the Transition to Teaching Program. I have previous work experience with the Kansas Department of Corrections and St. Johns Military School. I also officiate college baseball and basketball. I got into to teaching to help make a positive impact on the future leaders of our country. I am very excited and nervous to get the school year going and cant wait to meet all of you

Course Description
Courses are designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to obtain entrance to the Law Enforcement. This technical level course is an exploration of criminal law, the court system, legal procedures, and law enforcement operations including probation and incarceration. Examines the role of police in society and application of key concepts to policing scenarios. Students identify, discuss, and assess critical police practices and processes to include deployment, arrest procedures, search strategies, and other operational considerations.

Grading Scale:
90 - 100 = A
80 - 89 = B
70 - 79 = C
60 - 69 = D

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Turning in Work
All homework will be turned in through Google Classroom. Classroom assignments and worksheets will be placed in the properly marked bin.
Late Work
Late work will be accepted but with an automatic 10% reduction up to two days late. Any work past that date will get an automatic reduction of 20%. No work will be accepted after the end of a quarter or a semester. The instructor will hold final judgement how late work will be handled in unusual circumstances; emergencies, absences, etc. Communication will be needed from the student to myself on these unusual circumstances.
Absences
When a student is aware of an absence prior to it occurring (including school-related activities), every effort should be made to complete all work before the absence occurs. The student will be responsible for making up missed work. In the event of an excused absence, the student will have the time allowed per school policy to complete make-up work. Homework assignments may not be made up if the absence is unexcused.
Restroom and leaving the classroom
Students need to ask permission from the teacher if they need to use the restroom or step out of the classroom. They will need to sign the sign-out sheet and take a pass when they leave and sign back in and return the pass when the arrive back. Passes will not be given the first 10 or last minutes of class. Students need to return promptly when given a pass and not linger in the hallways.
Food and Drinks
Food and drink will be allowed in the classroom area but only small snacks and bottles with lids. Drinks without a lid will need to be left on an outer table in the classroom. No snacks with nuts will be permitted in case of a food allergy.
Technology in the classroom
Cell Phone Guideline: To create an optimal learning environment, cell phones may not be used in the classroom. Students are welcome to use their phones during passing periods, before and after school, and during lunch. By the time the bell rings to start class, phones should be silenced and put away in a backpack, pocket, or other secure location. Smart watches should not be utilized for app usage, messaging, or other non-essential functions during class. AirPods and headphones are allowed at the teacher's discretion.
No recording of any technology in the classroom will be permitted. School technology will be used following the guidelines of the Goddard Eisenhower Student Handbook.
Consequences for cell violations may include:
- Student required to hand cell phone to instructor and will be given back at the end of class
- Loss of participation points for that day
- A zero will be given to an assignment if using a phone while working on class assignment
- removal from the classroom
-Any other consequences listed in the school handbook
Device Requirement:
All students are required to bring their school-issued devices to class each day. The devices will be used for a variety of activities, including research, accessing course materials, completing assignments, and participating in interactive lessons. Devices are to be used for educational purposes only. Non-educational use during class will result in consequences as outlined in the technology policy. Guidelines usage listed in school handbook will be followed
Failure to bring a charged device could impact your ability to complete in-class assignments, potentially affecting your overall grade.
Cheating/Plagiarism/Forgery (student handbook):

The acts of cheating, plagiarism, or forgery in connection with academic endeavors or school processes or procedures are detrimental to the educational process and are subject to disciplinary action and loss of credit and will be dictated by the guidelines set in the student handbook.
Tardy Policy
A tardy will be defined as not being in the classroom when the bell rings. Please refer to the discipline policy outlined in the student handbook for procedure as far as tardies are concerned.
