Elementary All State Auditions

KMEA (Kansas Music Educator's Association) has an inservice workshop each year in February. Each year, students from across the state have the opportunity to audition for a variety of All State music ensembles. Elementary students in grades 3-5 are able to audition for the Elementary All State Choir.

Audition Information 24-25

Information will be sent home with students who are interested in auditioning for this choir. A permission slip signed by a parent/guardian must be returned for the student to audition. KMEA requires a $10 audition fee for each student. This fee can be paid in cash or by check (made out to Clark Davidson Elementary). These permission slips and audition fees are due by October 9. Students who return their permission slip and audition fees are agreeing to work on the audition and to put in all necessary work should they be accepted into the choir.

This choir is extremely selective. Hundreds of students audition for a very limited number of spots. Ms. Gabel speaks with all auditioning students so they understand that the auditions are very competitive and that if a student is not selected, it does not mean they aren't a talented singer.

Students will audition with the song, My Country 'Tis of Thee. Students will be given this music along with a QR code to a video they can practice with. It is important for students to spend time preparing for this audition. We do not learn this song during class, so auditioning students will need to work outside of school. If students have questions regarding the audition song, they can always speak with Ms. Gabel.

In late October, students will meet individually with Ms. Gabel to record their audition. This recording is audio only. Please note that auditioning students are required to sing the song independently, without piano or vocal help from Ms. Gabel. 

The All State Choir roster will be released on December 16. Ms. Gabel will make contact with any accepted students. Any selected students will work independently and with Ms. Gabel to prepare their concert music. The all-day rehearsal and performance for the 2024 KMEA All State Elementary Choir will take place on Thursday, February 27, 2024 on the stage at the Century II.
