ABOUT ADVANCED PLACEMENT
Advanced Placement courses offer university level content to students while attending Assumption Catholic Secondary School. Students in the AP pathway are encouraged to study topics in greater depth and breadth which will give them the opportunity to learn, and in some cases earn, university credits towards a post-secondary degree.
AP provides students with an opportunity for learning that goes beyond facts and figures. The rich course material, classroom discussions and inquiry based assignments typical of AP courses will help your child develop the knowledge, learning skills, and critical thinking skills expected of university bound students.
IS AP RIGHT FOR YOU?
Students who are high achievers and working above grade level in a subject area can apply to participate in the Advanced Placement pathway while attending Assumption. Students interested in AP are motivated and dedicated to school work, and are identified as prepared, interested and motivated.
A prepared student has completed prereading and homework, and is ready to engage in the learning of the day with questions and contributions to the class
An interested student has a passion for the subject
A motivated student is one who is ready to move at a faster pace of instruction and is willing to be challenged.
"AP helped me sharpen my understanding of the content, but fundamentally helped me become a better critical thinker and communicator"
