Dear Parents,
This page has been created to give you information about distance learning in the Secondary School. Teachers are working hard to engage with students online through our usual platforms, Google classroom and ManageBac, while also using Zoom to meet and speak with students face to face.
Kind regards,
Secondary Leadership Team (Viktor Novakovski, David White, Aliza Robinson and Andy Pontius)
We are extremely grateful to our community for your support during this challenging time. Our faculty has been collaborating to create engagements for our students as we transition to distance learning. We will continue to gather feedback from all of our community members, as we look to create the best distance learning opportunities for our students.
Below you will find some guidance for Distance Learning in Secondary. We are also reaching out to students via ManageBac with information pertinent to their classes.
An important site for you to be aware of is:
Consistent regular engagement by each student is critical for the success of our distance learning program.
AISB Distance Learning will take place in the Central European Time Zone. Students outside of this zone should make an effort to stay on this schedule. If it is not possible please inform your child’s homeroom teacher.
Please notify the school via Veracross or the attendance office if your child will not be ‘at school’ in an online setting.
Parents should view google classroom with their child to keep informed about in class assignments.
Thank you for jumping into this community-wide effort! We appreciate all of you!
NOTES:
Zoom: Students might not Zoom for the entire block of time. Some lessons they zoom for more or less time based on need.
ManageBac: Parents, you can find information on what is happening in class on MB messages (we will not email you all of this, but if you want to check in, you can do so there.)
Google Classroom: Students will find most of their instructions on the stream, and this is where most of the feedback and interaction will happen.
The return of Distance Learning and the home routine is challenging for many of us, and our students are no exception. We understand that you will need some time to discuss this as a family and ensure your children understand this is a preventative measure. In addition to supporting their learning, whenever possible, we encourage you to provide safe social interaction opportunities for your children.
Students will check in with their Mentor each morning. The Mentor that meets with them, will be the first point of contact for each student.
To support distance learning, we recommend these strategies for all our parents:
Familiarize yourself with Safeguarding guidelines & Responsible Use Policy
Talk about the daily schedules and support your child(ren) in sticking to them
Begin and end each day with a check-in to talk about and share in your child(ren)’s learning
Help make the home learning spaces comfortable, focused and well-organised
Monitor communications from your child(ren)’s teachers
Encourage breaks, quiet time and physical activity and help relieve any stresses or worries
Monitor how much time your child is spending online and set boundaries
Keep your children social, but set rules around their social media interactions
Maintain family traditions and take the opportunity to build new ones
