What does “Employment of General Foreign Professionals in Taiwan” mean?
Hiring foreigners in Taiwan must comply with the Employment Service Act and the Act for the Recruitment and Employment of Foreign Professionals. The following lists 11 categories of work that foreigners may engage in in Taiwan (as stipulated in Article 46, Paragraph 1 of the Employment Service Act):
Specialized or technical work
Executive roles for approved investment or business establishments
Teachers in schools (including universities, language schools, and bilingual schools)
Full-time teachers at cram schools
Sports coaches and athletes
Religious, artistic, and performing arts work
Seafarers
Marine fishing
Household helpers and caregivers
Work related to major national infrastructure or economic development
Other specially approved work under designated projects
Obtained relevant certificates or licenses in accordance with the Examination Act for Professional and Technical Personnel
Holds a master’s degree or higher in a relevant field, or a bachelor’s degree with over 2 years of relevant work experience
Has worked for a multinational enterprise for over 1 year and is assigned to work in Taiwan
Has received professional training or is self-taught with over 5 years of relevant experience and demonstrates innovation and outstanding performance (Note: If the individual is recognized under a special project as a startup talent with innovative capabilities, the “5 years of experience” requirement may be waived.)
