Since 2021, I have been part of the "Deconstructing Neurosexism" project (funded by the Equality Dept. of the University of Granada), assuming the role of PI since 2024. This project aims to raise awareness among teenagers about neurosexism: the misuse of neuroscientific research to promote the idea of mutually exclusive female and male brains to justify behavioral and cognitive gender differences, and ultimately, social inequalities. These claims overlook the influence of psychosocial variables and brain plasticity, which are essential to understanding the complex interplay between environment, prior experiences, brain function, and behavior. Through workshops in high schools and interactive activities, the project encourages critical thinking, challenging gender stereotypes that have infiltrated society framed as scientific evidence.
You can access the project's (Spanish) website here.
Between 2019 and 2022, I was part of the organizing team of the Psychobeers project (funded by the Spanish Science and Technology Federation), an outreach initiative that brought psychology and neuroscience research closer to the general public in relaxed, informal settings like bars and pubs.
More recently, I have been involved in this project as guest speaker.
You can find out more about this initiative on their social media:
I regularly participate in the Granada edition of this international event, where I have given talks on perceptual illusions and how they inform us about brain function, and neurosexism seminars.
I play an active role in the science dissemination activities organized in my research center (guided visits, Science Week, etc.), most of them targeting school and high school students.
