Rapid urbanization and economic growth across Asia have contributed to rising levels of ground-level ozone, acid rain/deposition, and aerosols, causing significant harm to both vegetation and human health. Furthermore, climate change not only affects plants and humans on its own, but also has various interactions with air pollution. It is time for concerned scientists to get together to better elucidate current and future situations of the air pollution and climate change impacts in Asia, and thereby to join the efforts toward developing a successful air quality management strategy in Asia.
The 6th Asian Air Pollution and Climate Change Workshop (AAPC) offers a venue for the meeting of scientists concerned about the impacts of air pollution and climate change on vegetation. In the spirit of the long-standing Air Pollution Workshop tradition in North America, AAPC emphasizes discussion over formal presentations. While we encourage participation of researchers from Asia, colleagues from around the world are also warmly welcomed. We hope that the discussions at the AAPC will facilitate the participants developing long-term collaborations across national borders in Asia as well as in the world.
The previous workshop, 5th Asian Air Pollution Workshop, was held in Varanasi, India in 2019. This year, we have added “Climate Change” to the name of the workshop, aiming for a more in-depth discussion covering air pollution and climate change.
