GLEE CLUB

The WHMS Glee Club is an informal choir that is student led with the guidance of Mrs. Ashley. These students work together to select their songs and create arrangements of the songs. They perform at various events throughout the year, which include: the WHMS Remembrance Day assembly, Windsor Parade of Lights, Christmas Angels, and several concerts and at the school. If you're interested in singing and being part of a fun group of students who enjoy music, then Glee Club is for you!
No audition process - all interested students welcome.

REHEARSALS

Thursdays 3:30 - 4:45pm 

There are a few times we have to change rehearsal days due to the monthly school dances, so please check the CALENDAR for accurate rehearsal dates.

SABER SCALES

Saber Scales is about giving band students that extra grounding in their instrumental technique. By taking the option to join, students will learn new skills, recognize musical patterns in music, and feel a boost of confidence in their playing and performing. Performing a variety of scales will be required at each level and there are prizes involved!  It's a great way for students to push themselves in technique. Saber Scales is open to any student in Band 7 or 8.

TECH CREW

The Tech Crew is club that consists of students in grades 6-8 who have a keen interest in sound systems and lighting. Member of the Tech Crew are responsible for setting up and DJ-ing the monthly school dances, and setting up the sound system for various events throughout the school year. Members will be trained in proper usage of equipment. Space is limited.
There is an application process for this club. Please see Mrs. Ashley before the deadline of September 15.

MEETINGS

Members will be notified of meeting times. Please check our Google Classroom and the CALENDAR regularly. 

GRADE 6 MUSIC

In the Music 6 Course, we dig deeper into our musical knowledge and skills from previous grades.  Through various activities, students develop their critical thinking skills to express and reflect upon their ideas, understandings, and feelings through music. This course provides numerous opportunities for listening, creating, playing instruments and literacy development. Some key instruments include the recorder and djembes. Experiential learning in music develops psychomotor, intellectual, and verbal abilities, as well as musical ability. This holistic learning process also fosters self-esteem and promotes respect for others.

GRADE 7 BAND

Grade 7 Band (Band Instruments 7) is a course where students learn to play an instrument and read music in a team environment. The objective of this course is not only to develop fundamental musical skills, but also develop great people and leaders. Through the rehearsal setting, band students learn life-long skills such as self-discipline, team work, goal setting, self-expression and work ethic. They will prepare for performances throughout the year, including (but not limited to) the Winter and Spring concerts. Additional opportunities may include Beginner Band Camp, off-campus performances and more. The instruments offered include flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, double bass, and percussion.  
Please be aware that there is a fee for instrument rental and materials, however, alternative funding options can be made available. No prior musical experience is necessary.

GRADE 7 EXPLORE MUSIC

Explore Music is a course that is designed to provide students the opportunity to explore various facets of music. With a focus on the Elements of Music, students will listen, play, perform, research, and evaluate. There are opportunities to work both independently and collaboratively, encouraging students to build self-confidence, self-discipline and teamwork skills. Explore Music also introduces students to music technology and how to use it as a means of creation, practice and enjoyment. Throughout the year, students will prepare for performances, including (but not limited to) the an annual Coffee House. Students will have the opportunity to play various classroom instruments such as guitar, keyboard, ukulele, drums, boomwhackers and voice. No prior musical experience necessary.

GRADE 8 BAND

In Grade 8 Band (Band Instruments 8), students continue to work on an instrument and read music in a team environment. The objective of this course is not only to develop fundamental musical skills, but also develop great people and leaders. They will prepare for performances throughout the year, including (but not limited to) the Winter and Spring concerts. Additional opportunities may include off-campus performances and more. Please be aware that there is a fee for instrument rental and materials, however, alternative funding options can be made available. No prior musical experience is necessary and Band 7 is not a prerequisite. The instruments offered include flute, clarinet, saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, double bass and percussion.
