The EXCEL program is a fee-for-service recreational program run by the Halifax Regional Centre for Education. Currently offered in 67 elementary schools, it is an option to parents who are seeking before and after school care for their elementary-aged children.

The Nova Scotia Before and After Program (BAP) is a fee-based program is available to families of children ages 4 to 12, who are enrolled in the Nova Scotia Pre-Primary Program or the public education system.
BAP is delivered by approved child care, municipal recreation or recognized non-profit recreation providers. It is delivered on-site at the school, so children and students have a seamless day. The program promotes health, well-being and a physically active lifestyle by focusing on physical literacy, movement and outdoor play.
