Welcome to West Hants Middle School! My name is Sheldon States, and I am very proud to be your Principal for the 2023-24 school year. Each day at WHMS is filled with surprise and wonder. I rarely know what is going to happen regardless of how well I plan. Bringing this many people together leads to one unexpected thing after another. It makes each day an adventure.

I want to welcome all new grade 6 students to West Hants Middle School. We come together from elementary schools all over West Hants to form a bigger family where 6 schools become 1. You are all in this together, and I can assure you that there are new friends, new experiences, and new challenges ahead.

You will all get to know me, and I will do my best to get know all of you. You will see me each day walking up and down the hallways, outside with you at recess, in the cafeteria with you at lunch, and each afternoon to make sure that everyone gets on the bus safely. I love this building, and I love this job! We have close to 600 students here along with more than 50 staff, so it's like coming into a little town each day. I think you will enjoy the energy when you arrive at West Hants Middle School. You will feel a little more grown up and be given some additional freedom to make more choices for yourself. Many of you will take advantage of the added opportunities to get involved in your school community. You may play on one of our many sports teams, participate in our leadership program, perform in the talent show or gather up support to create an activity of your own. We will support you every step of the way, both in the classroom and outside. We encourage your ideas to make this a better place for all students.

Don't hesitate to stop in to see me in the Main Office. I like visits from students. I'm really looking forward to meeting all of you in September, and I hope that we have a great start to the school year.
