Currently Google Transfer is not available for staff. Any staff who would like to keep any of their files after employment will need to download the files.
Submit a request to your HelpDesk using the HelpDesk web portal or by calling 902-464-help.
Submit a request to the HRCE HelpDesk web portal, email them at sthd@hrce.ca or by calling 902-464-help.
First try logging in from the GNSPES launch page. Look for the Moodle icon. If that does not work, try again using your HRSB email login (@hrsb.ca and not @hrce.ca) and password. If it does not work, please call the HRCE HelpDesk at 902-464-help. Keep in mind Moodle will consider your HRSB and GNSPES login as 2 different entities.
There is a lot of work that happens behind the scenes in order to have a resource approved for use with students. The resource list on the EECD e-learning site includes resources that have been reviewed and legally approved based on diligent research into their privacy policies. These resources are sites that require students to sign in with personally identifying information (for example; email address, first and last name, birth date, gender, student images or video, one-click sign in with Google). The listed resources are sites and platforms that require logins and collect personal information. As a result, the sites listed here have obtained legal approval for student use in the HRCE.
Many sites do not require students to log in for them to use. Therefore, teachers can create personal accounts for any site they decide would be a good addition to support student learning based on their professional pedagogical discretion.
If there is a site you would like to use with your students, but it does not require any personally identifying information (for example; first and last name, email address, etc.) from the student, or an alias/nickname can be used in place of the student name, teachers may use their discretion and make a professional judgement given the information on the privacy policy and from reviewing the content from a pedagogical perspective. Please make sure that parents/guardians are aware you will be using this resource if the children are under the age of consent as indicated on the privacy policy page of the resource.
When in doubt, please email TILT with questions and information about the site you are looking to use with your students. Privacy and pedagogy should always be reviewed before using any website with your students.
We at TILT have been working diligently behind the scenes to create the Digital Resource Assessments (DRAs) for resources that are currently not listed as approved on the EECD e-learning site and require student sign in. Some of them have already been submitted for approval and we are hoping to continue with this process as time permits based on a prioritized list.
We are pleased to announce that Read & Write (along with EquatiO and Orbitnote) is now available to all students and teachers in HRCE schools for the 2022-23 school year. This means there will not be a need for individual administration for specific licenses for access to these products and that referrals to your Assistive Technology Specialist for these programs are no longer required. These extensions can accessed from the GNSPES Launch page.
Anyone who has a @hrce.ca email can access a GNSPES account. If this is your first time logging in to GNSPES, try logging in with your full @hrce.ca email address and password. (If @hrce.ca doesn't work, try xxx@hrsb.ca and/or xxx@hrsb.ns.ca) The next time you log in you can leave off the @hrce.ca and use just your username.
All students should be able to access their accounts from the GNSPES login page. GNSPES usernames & emails are automatically generated once they are in PowerSchool. Student logins and student numbers can be found on the demographics page of PowerSchool. To change the password of a student, please access the 'Self Serve Admin' button found on your gnspes landing page.
Student Teachers Requesting Access: Student teachers can now submit a request for GNSPES access. Here is the link as well as information regarding their GNSPES account.
Student Teacher Account Troubleshooting Issues: Once a student teacher has their account and are experiencing any issues logging in, they should email accounts@gnspes.ca for support.
If you work with an outside organization (RCMP, YMCA, APSEA, for example) and work with students you may be able to have a GNSPES account. One must apply for this account through the EECD. The application for this can be found here; https://www.gnspes.ca/spt/
Recent account changes in student GNSPES accounts now require students to know their security question in order to reset their password.
If students do not know their security question, a teacher who currently has that student enrolled in their class can change their password for them.
We have created this document to help walk you through the process.
No we do not. Any chromebook that you purchase will work with GNSPES. In many cases, the cheaper option will be perfectly acceptable! Typically, a Chromebook is only as fast as the internet it runs on, so find the best deal you can and go for it.
They are both great tools however, for ease of use for our younger students at home, a Google Site might be the best practice. Google Classroom can be accessed more readily by our students in grades 3 and up.
No parents do not have nor will they receive access to a child's Google Classroom. This is meant for student use and they can share their screen with their parents!
This typically happens if someone is logged into the Chrome browser with their PERSONAL gMail account. Have the student or parent try the following:
1 – Make sure they are using chrome
2 – Sign out of the chrome BROWSER in the top right
3 – Sign INTO the chrome Browser with the student GNSPES
4 – log in at gnspes.ca with the student login/password
5 – click the ‘classroom’ icon on the launch page
6 – enter the class code (if they aren’t already in the classroom)
Once you are logged into PowerSchool click "SQL Reports" on the bottom left. From there you should be able to select student emails to print.
There are a few reasons your Sphero may not be charging. First, make sure your Spheros are on the right base - the SPRK (white stripe) need to be on the white base with the black cord that plugs into the wall, and the SPRK+ (blue stripe) goes on the blue base with the blue USB charging cord. Also, make sure the heavy part of the Sphero is at the bottom (where you see the copper circle). If the Sphero is charging correctly there should be a flashing blue light on the side of the base. When fully charged that light should be solid. Spheros have about 1 hour of run time on a full charge and require approx. 3 hours to fully charge.
No, you need to use both.
Apps and extensions can be requested to be released for student use by completing the information at the following link: Request for Review.
We suggest you apply for a Brilliant Labs grant for up to $500 depending on your project needs, or apply for a PDAF (Professional Development Assistance Fund) grant. We also try to send out information about tech grants available during our monthly newsletter (sign up here) or in the weekly Program Memo.
No.
You will need to download each app (Drive, Slides, Docs, Sheets, etc.) individually onto the Ipad. If students are using the apps on the Ipad, they will have to sign in and out of each individual app every time.
Please put in a tech request ticket.
Unfortunately the Google for Education plan that NS teachers has access to does not have the built in capabilities for breakout rooms.
