French Programs at Sydney Academy will give you an opportunity to continue with French from Middle School programs, whether it's French Immersion, Integrated French, or Core French.
Grade 9 (2024-25)
This year, Sydney Academy will be offering the Integrated French Program for students entering Grade 9. This program will allow students to prepare for the Sydney Academy Integrated French Program as well as the IB Program. Students will study two courses where French is the language of instruction (French Language Arts and Citizenship).
Grade 8 students who wish to be considered for this program should indicate their intention on their course registration sheets.
Grades 10 to 12 - Integrated French Certificate
Students from Grades 10 to 12 are required to take six courses where French is the language of instruction in order to receive the Integrated French Certificate at the end of Grade 12. Students must take Pre-IB French 10 and IB French 11 and 12 as the French Language Arts credits, and three other courses taught in French.

Students enrolled in the Integrated French Program at Sydney Academy are eligible to sit for the OPI (Oral Proficiency Interview). Students will so the interview during their Grade 12 year.
A student may take both the Integrated French Certificate and IB French courses concurrently.
It is to be noted that students do not need to be registered in the full IB Diploma to be eligible to take IB French. As well, students who are registered in only IB French, who are not a part of the Integrated French Program, are not eligible to sit for the OPI at the end of Grade 12.
IB Bilingual Diploma
Of the courses taken to receive the IB Diploma, the following may be taken in French to earn a bilingual designation:

IB French 11
IB Histoire 11
IB French 12
IB Histoire 12
The following allow a diploma candidate to earn both a bilingual diploma, and an Integrated French Certificate:

Art dramatique 10

Students earning both a bilingual diploma and an Integrated French Certificate are eligible to sit for the OPI (Oral Proficiency Interview) during their Grade 12 year.
Core French Grades 9 to 12:
Core French offerings are available to students coming from a previous Core French background in Middle School.
