Sherwood Park Education Centre, is a middle school in the Sydney Family of Schools, that opened in January, 1997. We are located in Sydney, Cape Breton, NS, Canada with a student population of 390 and a staff of 45. We are very pleased to provide a technology solution to our students.
Mission Statement
Sherwood Park Education Centre embraces a child centered learning environment with a focus on interdisciplinary teams integrating a large number of technologies and teaching/learning tools that lead to measurable outcomes.
Vision Statement
Sherwood Park Education Centre strives to develop, in a safe caring and creative atmosphere, and through a process of shared decision making, and environment in which each student is motivated to succeed in her/his studies; as well as in extra and co-curricular activities according to his or her potential. Our school community endeavours to develop in all our students the self-discipline to act responsibly, a genuine caring attitude toward self and others, and a life-long love of learning.

Monday, March 18, 2023 DAY 1
The Island Pipe Band Association is looking for snare drummers aged 7 +up. Lessons are held every Monday at SPEC from 5-6 pm. The lessons are absolutely free. If there are any students interested, please contact Trevor Kellock at SPEC trkellock@gnspes.ca
Reminder that we are a Peanut-free environment.
A reminder to students that they must be seated while in the cafeteria for both the breakfast program and during your lunch. Also, students are not permitted on the stage or the stairs to the stage.
Reminder that Sherwood Park is a scent-free environment. Please be aware that using products such as perfume, cologne, body sprays, etc are NOT permitted in any area of the school including all bathrooms, stairwells, hallways, library, office, and all classrooms.
Parents/Guardians are asked to NOT block the bus lane while dropping off or picking up your student.
Students are reminded that they are only permitted to drink water in the classrooms.
Please power down your cellphones and drop them in your backpack. You are permitted to use them during your lunch break.

Council on African Canadian Education
The Council on African Canadian Education recently appointed Kim King MacDonald as the new representative for Cape Breton. Kim, is a resident of Glace Bay and a Social Worker in the area. Her role on the council is to provide advice and guidance to the Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development on educational programs, services and funding for African Nova Scotian learners.
