January 2026 Exams
As of this School Year, the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) reduced the number of exam days for the school year, which has required us to host morning and afternoon exams. This is a change for SMBA compared to previous years. Exams will be written both in the morning and afternoon for students in Grades 9-12 on January 28th and 29th. There will be no regular classes for students in Grades 9-12 on these days. Students in Grades 7 and 8 have regular classes, however there will be a slightly different schedule during the day.
In order to accommodate the afternoon exams, lunch break will be from 11:50am-12:38 for ALL students. We ask that students be in their morning exams by 9:10am, at which point the exam will begin immediately after O’Canada and morning announcements to ensure they do not run out of time. We ask that students be in their afternoon exams by 12:40pm to ensure they do not run out of time.
For students who are writing the English Language Arts 10 Provincial this has also changed and will be completed during regular class time on January 26th and January 27th and is not scheduled within the two-day exam block. If a student will be absent for an exam, it is crucial that contact be made with the school prior to the start of the exam. If contact is not made, or the reasoning does not constitute a valid reason, the student will not be permitted to write during the make-up session.
