Notice To Parents Regarding The Shipyard Band Program

Students enrolled in Grade 5 for 22/23 are encouraged to participate in the instrumental music program. Studies have shown that the thinking processes used to play music help students also achieve more in other subject areas. Band is lots of fun and it involves both an individual and team effort.

Band students are expected to catch up on any work they miss to take their band class. Students will receive an evaluation with their report cards and are expected to practice regularly. Students are also expected to remain in the program for their entire school year.

Students will receive two 45 minute classes and one 1 hour rehearsal in an 8 day cycle during school hours.

In order to have a balanced band it is necessary to distribute the instruments accordingly. We regret that we are not always able to give each student their choice of instrument but we will try our best to accommodate everyone the best we can. School rentals will be $60.00 and is paid online or by cash at the office; you can choose to rent or buy one from Long and McQuade or a private sale. Please do not purchase one from eBay or the internet. Most are poor quality and cause so much frustration for the students and the rest of the band.
