SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCILS

SACs play a contributing role in supporting student success and school performance at the community-level.

The role of School Advisory Councils (SACs)

School Advisory Councils are volunteer organizations established by the Nova Scotia Education Act, generally made up of parents/guardians, community members, the school principal, teachers and school support staff. SACs serve as advisory bodies for school principals and the regional centre on a range of issues related to the school and the overall system.

• Partners at the school level have important perspectives that should be  considered when making decisions.

• School improvement leads to increased student achievement.

• School policies should account for the unique characteristics of each school  community.

• Education partners need to work together to manage change effectively.

• Involving the school community in school improvement planning enhances learning for all students.
