Upcoming Events 2022-2023

Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jennifer Stuart, and I am a co-owner and the proud Executive Director of the Canadian College of Massage & Hydrotherapy (CCMH) in Halifax. I have been a massage therapist for almost 30 years and have been teaching massage therapy across Canada for just as long. My roots are on the north shore, having grown up in Pictou, and I received a BSc in Biology & Chemistry from Acadia in 1990. The college I own is my alma mater and has the longest running massage therapy program in Canada. We are very well known nationally and internationally for providing top quality massage therapy education. In fact, that is the only program we have - MASSAGE THERAPY - and so ALL our efforts go towards making sure we have the best curriculum, faculty, staff, facility, and of course - graduates.

Our campus is in the west end of Halifax, across the street from the Halifax Shopping Centre. The neighbourhood is a mix of commercial, retail, and residential with lots of apartments for students within walking distance of the college. We also have a major Metro Transit Depot within the complex. Many of our students commute from the inner city, or from rural communities as we are conveniently just off the end of HWY 102 so there is no need to drive deep into downtown or the south end, and... parking is free!

As you may know, massage therapy is one of the fastest growing careers, especially in healthcare, in North America. Canadian massage therapists have one of the highest levels of education internationally and are in very high demand. Many of our students are currently signing contracts with clinics or spas who have made them offers already, knowing they do not graduate until May.  Their starting salaries may be between $50K - $75K and this is for between 22 - 28 hours of massage per week. Aside from the great financial rewards, being a massage therapist provides one of the best work-life balance, stress-free careers imaginable. Every patient we have typically feels better after a treatment, they are all happy to see us, and the atmosphere is so peaceful, we actually go to work to get away from any stress in our lives. It's a beautiful career.

If you have any students interested in pursuing a career in health care or who have talked about kinesiology, nursing, physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropractic, or even basic science, please feel welcome to provide them with our information. We have many graduates who go on to these professions after studying massage therapy and they always comment that the education received at our school was more than enough to prepare them and sometimes much more in depth. We also have articulation agreements with some Canadian universities for graduates who wish to pursue an undergraduate degree in kinesiology, health science, or general science, and they could easily work as a massage therapist while furthering their studies.

We are actively recruiting for our fall intake, which begins August 28th, and applications are being accepted until mid-July. The class size is small, at a maximum of 45 students, so seats fill up fast.

Please let me know if we can be of any assistance to you in presenting massage therapy as a viable option for your graduates.

I wanted to update you on what’s happening at Beinn Mhàbu (https://www.beinnmhabu.ca) – the former St. Joseph’s Renewal Convent & Renewal Centre in Mabou, Inverness County. As you may know, it is under the direction of Colaisde na Gàidhlig | The Gaelic College and this coming September will see us launching a brand new post-secondary experience called the Gaelic Foundations: Living Cultures Program.

In partnership with Cape Breton University, this fresh, new program delivers an innovative, broad-based, foundation year meeting first year Arts program requirements. Offered through the language of English, students gain a deep understanding of Gaelic culture by focusing on key subject areas, from the ancient past to the present day.  Students are registered as full-time CBU students and can continue into the second year of their BA or BACS program at CBU, or seek transfer credits to another university.

The attachment gives an overview of the program, along with further details at the website above and at https://www.cbu.ca/academics/programs/beinn-mhabu/.

I’d be grateful to have an opportunity to present this program to Grade 12 students at your school, as well as interested staff members wanting to learn more. The presentation is flexible according to your requirements, but 30 minutes would work on our end.
