Grade 2

English Language Arts (ELA) - Strands include reading/viewing, writing/representing and speaking/listening. They will be taught through the following ways:

Readers Workshop - Shared reading, guided reading, read aloud, independent reading and partner reading.

Technology - All students will receive a Chromebook to use in class. This will be new exciting learning for them. We will use it for all subject areas.

Word Study - Blends, vowels, word families, high frequency words (word wall), syllables, compound words and contractions.

Writers Workshop - daily writing, choice writing, as well as modeled, guided and independent writing during units of study which include; Personal Narrative, Realistic Fiction, Non-fiction, Poetry and Procedural.


Mathematics -

Students will explore and develop skills in the following strands:

Measurement

Geometry

Statistics

Unit 7 : Addition and Subtraction (one - and two -digit numbers) and Extending Number Sense - Place Value

Unit 8 : Measurement - Mass

Unit 9 : Measurement - (Length, Height, and Distance Around) and Statistics

Unit 10 : Addition and Subtraction of numbers to 100 and Extending Number Sense - Place Value

Unit 11 : Geometry

Visual Arts - Students will explore and manipulate a range of materials, demonstrating the ability to express themselves. They will use a variety of independent and collaborative art making strategies and examine a broad range of artworks through time and cultures. Students will be expected to respectfully respond and reflect about their own and others art. They will also develop an awareness and appreciation of art as a lifelong process.
