New Schedule for grades 9-12 for the 2025-2026 school year. Start time and end times are still the same.
Welcome back to all returning students, and a warm welcome to our new students and families joining the Middleton Regional High School community. We're excited to see what lies ahead for the 2025-2026 school year.
School Website: Stay up to date by visiting our website at https://sites.google.com/gnspes.ca/mrhs/home. You'll find the latest newsletters, monthly calendars, staff email addresses, and more. We update it daily, so check back often.
The school website is also where you will find information about the Nova Scotia School Lunch Program. MRHS will be part of this program for the 2025-2026 school year. Meals will no longer be ordered at the school level. This is a pre-order system that works in 2 week intervals, meaning meals need to be ordered in advance. Information has been sent from the AVRCE about this program and we have also shared the information on our school website. You can also find information here: https://nslunch.ca/
Registration Forms and Student Fees: An envelope will be sent home with each student that will have forms that need to be returned. When returning the envelope, please indicate how student fees will be paid by checking the appropriate box. The student fee is $25.00 per student. For families with more than two students, the fee is reduced to $10.00 for each additional student. Please contact the school administration if this fee presents a hardship.
Attendance & Absences: We expect students to attend school consistently as frequent absences can affect their learning. If your child will be absent or needs to leave early, please call 902-825-5350 before 9:00 a.m. to let us know. If a student is late, please call or provide a note. Students who are significantly late without a call or note may be assigned detention.
Student Drop-off/Pick-up: For everyone's safety, please do not use the bus loop for drop-offs or pick-ups between 8:40–9:10 a.m. and 3:00–3:30 p.m. Drop-offs and pick-ups should be on Gates Avenue or School Street, and not in the Macdonald Museum parking lot. The main entrance opens daily at 8:40 a.m.
Bus Passes: If a student needs to ride a different bus, they must have a note from a parent or guardian. This note can be exchanged for a bus pass at the office before school, or during recess and lunch. We cannot issue passes at the end of the school day or over the phone.
Bus Planner: For your student’s bus information, see Bus Planner. https://avrce.ca/article/busplanner-web-parent-portal
Volunteers: For the safety of all students, anyone who wishes to volunteer (e.g., coach, chaperone, etc.) must complete a Criminal Record Check and a Child Abuse Register Check. Information on this is available at the main office.
The Provincial Directive on Personal Cell Phone Use in Schools is still in effect. For information on this please visit https://www.ednet.ns.ca/cellphones.
We have two major updates this year: a new Code of Conduct and a new bell schedule for Grades 9-12.
Bell Schedule
The bell schedule will be different this year for students in Grades 9-12. Instead of lunch being at 12:05, it will be from 1:20 to 2:00. Beginning at end times will be the same. Students are expected to be in class at 9:10.

The School Code of Conduct is a provincial-level policy that has been updated to better support a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment for all students and staff. The new code is designed to be clearer and more consistent, providing a framework that is both fair and firm in its approach to student behaviour. It is our goal to ensure that all members of our school community—students, staff, and families—understand the expectations and responsibilities that are essential for fostering a positive school climate.
We believe that the Code of Conduct is a shared responsibility, and we look forward to partnering with you to ensure its success. We encourage you to review the new code of conduct with your student and discuss the importance of respect, responsibility, and empathy. Your support in reinforcing these values at home is important. We are confident that by working together, we can create a school community where everyone feels safe, respected, and ready to learn. Please do not hesitate to contact the school administration if you have any questions or require further information.
Information on the Safe School Strategy can be found here : https://www.ednet.ns.ca/school-safety

Course Change Information:
Students from current grade 9-11 were given their schedules today. If they are hoping for a course change, they need to fill out the following form:
This form is for grade 10-12 students for 2025-2026 to request a course change. Please be patient as we navigate this busy time. It is possible that the changes might not be made until the week before the start of school.
Things to consider:
Due to being a smaller school, we can only offer so many courses in certain spots. We will try to accommodate your request but we may not be able to make the changes.
The grade 12s will have priority as they need to meet their graduation requirements.
If it is a Math or English pathway change, we will need to connect with home (ex: switching from Math 11 to Math at Work 11 OR English 12 to English Communications 12)
If you have any further questions please email Ms. Coombs at sjleblanc@gnspes.ca
***Please remember that student drop off in the morning and pick up at dismissal time should happen on Gates Avenue or School Street so as not to interfere with the busses***
