Scholarship and Bursary Opportunities
As scholarship and bursary opportunities come in to Student Services, they are listed below. Please bear in mind that this is not an exhaustive list. Many other opportunities exist that are not included here. It is ultimately the student’s responsibility to find scholarship and bursary opportunities and to go through the application process. Some things to keep in mind are:
· Be organized – Due dates come along quickly! Late applications will not be considered.
· Build a resume of your community and leadership experience – Eligibility for many scholarships includes this sort of experience. If you have it already documented, you will not need to re-invent the wheel or forget to include something useful to your application.
· Do some research – Internet searches including websites such as Scholar Tree or Scholarships Canada, inquiries at your parents’ places of work, university websites, and making inquiries at service clubs in your area are all ways that you can discover opportunities for yourself. Remember that applying for scholarships might seem like a lot of work, but consider the possible rewards.
· Ask your references early – Many applications require references. These are typically teachers, people you know in the community, or past employers. Don’t ask at the last minute! Appreciate that you are asking a favor and be respectful of the reference person’s time and effort. Never use someone’s name without permission.
