Course Description and Philosophy
Physical Education is an important part of the total educational process. It provides unique learning opportunities and promotes well-being. Students will develop self-esteem, interpersonal skills, communication skills and creativity.
The goal of this course is to introduce students to fun, safe and inclusive sports and physical activities in a way that will motivate them to pursue physical activities outside of the school environment and create physically literate students. It is important for people to learn about healthy and active living from an early age so that they can live a physically active lifestyle throughout their entire lifetime.
Class Expectations
Classroom expectations include attentiveness, participation, positive attitude and respectful behavior. Students in Primary to Grade 3 are asked on PE days to wear comfortable clothing to move around in. Students in grades 4 to 8 are required to change at the beginning and end of class into proper gym clothes. (T- shirt, shorts or sweatpants, and sneakers) Any hanging jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, watches, earrings) should be removed. Any other piercings can be taped over or worn at the students risk but they should understand there is risk of injury if they chose not to.
Athletics and Team Expectations
All competitors are expected to conduct themselves with a high standard of team spirit, fair play and sportsmanship. They will be expected to treat teammates, coaches, opponents, spectators and officials with respect at all times. Academics and athletics contribute to the student’s educational experience.
