Confidential Means:
not telling anyone else what you say; private, it stays between you and me. There are only a few instances when the counsellor may have to share something you said.
Reasons to see the counselor:
having conflict with friends
difficulty with school work
help with organization or time management
problems at home
to share good news
need to talk to someone
need time to cool down
need some information
need to cry
conflict with a teacher
being picked on or bullied
questioning sexual orientation
need help with self-harm
having suicidal thoughts
to get a chocolate :)
The counsellor will not share your information unless:
she has your permission
you might be harmed
someone else might be harmed
you share knowledge of a crime
the counsellor is subpoenaed to court
How do I see the counsellor?
ask your teacher if you can leave class
email or call the counsellor to book an appointment
Who can refer me to the counsellor?
you can decide to go on your own
the principal or VP
parents
friend
Do I have to go?
Nobody can force you to talk to a counsellor. However, your school counsellor is trained to help students solve problems. It's a good idea to at least meet with the counsellor before you make a decision.
