Healthy Living Outline

Healthy Living 7

Madeline Symonds Middle School

Ms. L. Fawthrop

Course Description:

The Healthy Living Curriculum for grades seven to nine has three main areas of focus; Healthy Self, Healthy Relationships, and Healthy Community. In my class, these topics are explored through class work and discussions. The students will have the opportunity to learn through teacher directed activities as well as in collaboration with their peers. Each week, students will participate in Morning Circle in the bandroom, Journal Fridays and regular classroom work. Through a variety of learning activities, this course will provide all students to participate and to be included.

It is expected that students will allow group work to be facilitated by a chosen leader and in the full class setting, by the teacher. Advice is expected only on request. This allows students to speak freely and cooperatively in Healthy Living. School rules and expectations are followed in this class with the addition of the following three values: a) Respect b) Non-Judgement c) Listening to the Speaker

Expectations

Students struggling to meet the classroom expectations will first have a conference with the teacher and depending on the level of impact on the class, follow up phone calls will be made to the parent and MSMS administration if the issues are continuing to occur. The expectations can be boiled down to:
